I have had my 05 XJ8VP for 5 years. I have replaced the ignition coils, and 3 of the window motors. The glass would go down a few inches and stop until you pressed the switch again! Overall, it's been an excellent car;however, my 1995/1997 XJ6VP remain my favorites! Always, enjoy your videos!

I've a 2008 Daimler Super eight (X350) re imported from Japan to UK with 49K miles. Just completed 12 months and put another 10k miles on it. Couple of trips into Europe and around. Even on the UK country roads it handles better than a super limo has any right too. Other than new tyres and good servicing I can't complain, plus it cost me less to buy than 1 years depreciation on my last Range Rover!

My 04 XJR needed the time chain cover gasket as well. In 3 years I'm into mine for about 6k in maintenance and repairs. The way I look at it I'm in with purchase and repair for 12k. Not a bad price for a beautiful luxury machine.

Great that you are enjoying driving it. I hope there are parts of the country where you can test its performance. The amount of work done on the brakes is very common for X350 with the Brembo brakes. They suffer from warped discs, pad knock-off and rapid wear. Jaguar got very close to issuing a recall for them, but changed to ATE for later cars. I replaced my ATE front discs at nearly 200, 000 Km, and I think they were the originals, but were at the thickness limit. I changed my valley hoses when I replaced a supercharger for noisy rear bearings, and it was a real challenge. Remote hose clip pliers and good torque wrenches were essential. Sorry you missed out on the Daimler VdP V12, that would have been interesting.

What a nice car! I'll be replacing the AdWest steering rack on my 91 XJ40 with a ZF, as it's like Niagara Falls. Otherwise it's a good daily car for the summer!

Brilliant, they say a picture speaks a 1000, however what you have proved is speaking with visuals, is far better by 100% only Q i have is what metal are the bolts as i cant seem to find anything that says which ones, except well coated zinc. Thanks again DG

I`ve had a1999 X308 XJR as a weekend car since 2008 with about 100,000 miles on it (salvage, I had to change the nose after a low speed front ender) to replace my 1990 Daimler XJ40. Mechanically it was always fine (as were all my previous XJ`s), the only failures being an alternator (which didn't cause a breakdown) & a pair of engine mounts, that's literally it, in 25,000 miles.. It never used or leaked oil from the engine, box or diff (& still doesn't)... Then lockdown happened, I didn't use it for 18 months.. that resulted in the fuel pumps seizing, which, as you know, isn't an easy job, & also in that 18 month period of idleness, one of the brake rigid pipes corroded through, & rust just erupted through the sills & the front edges of the floors around the same time (not something you have to worry about on an X350, especially in your part of the world!)... I have friends with BM M5`s & AMG Mercs of the same era, & they always rib me, saying about how my Jag is the poor relation, but at the same time, their ones have left them stranded numerous times, & cost much, MUCH more to repair & maintain, with virtually no performance advantage.. For me, the XJR`s are a no brainer, as long as you buy one with a decent history & hasn't been neglected or left standing (they dont like being left standing!).

My M5 E60 was a horror! Fast but do expensive to keep on the bitumen

@@tjmthejagmandownunder Yeah, the parts prices are ridiculous, one of my friends has just spent 4-5 years restoring his E39 M5, the rust was much worse than my Jag, & all over the thing, creeping under the paint on virtually every panel, & the brake & suspension component prices were staggering, like 10 times more than a Jag for some of them, & they aint cheap to start with! I`ll stick to Jags ta!

Not bad at all TJM for a XJR with a V8 and turbo charger. Good value for money when you can get it on the open road and open it up over 120kph. Just don't get caught TJM. I'm frightned to open up my 2.1ltr X type never mind my Low milage X300 in case I get fined and they take my licence and my car away. It was fun way back in the 60's on the motorways in Britain. When I could do whatever speed I wanted, providing I did not stay in the right hand lane. I remember travelling at 100mph and two police whizzing by me in an E.Type Jag. And they weren't in a hurry either. That was the good old fun days when you could test a car after tuning it.

The repairs list seems to show a fair bit of wear and tear / ageing items, but when you factor in the use the car had and distances covered it’s really not bad, a large performance car that’s been well used and well maintained…. Interesting the story with all the brake components, new discs and then 2 sessions of refacing them… maybe non-genuine discs were fitted or harder pads ? I think it’s fair that the previous owner didn’t get hit with the repair bill you took on after buying it cheap, you were the right person to buy and assess the car and Dr Jag was the right place to properly find and sort the more challenging but understood failures.

Buying an 04 XJR supercharged w/ 75k miles on it (2 owner) very well maintained. Can I lose money on it, if I buy it for $5k? Or is that a steal? Same silver and beautiful maintenance record

Dint believe there is any real issue. Had the front cover off to replace the leaky gasket last year. All guides looked perfect at 290k

Hello from Alberta, Canada. I have the opportunity to buy my 93 year old neighbour's 2005, 4.2L Vanden Plas. It has 72,000km and has never been driven in the winter. The car looks fabulously pristine. It has only had a cooling system repair and an aircon leak. The tires and brakes are two years old. Would you please use your magic crystal ball, from 14,000 km away, and tell me if everything is going to let go after I buy it? He wants $14,000 AUD. Cheers!

Hi Ed Nice to have you on board. Just buy it, it will be the best car you have ever owned (maybe)😊 Air suspension will be the biggest factor but easily shorted. My view this model xj was the best ever made. I have owned 3 of them
