This is at my grandma's house. These are GREAT machines, courtesy of Whirlpool. I asked her when these were from, and she said they were bought in 2005, since they moved into this condo at the end of 2004. They were probably bought at the now closed Sears in Genesee Valley!

Good machine! I can give ya some info here. The way you were describing that Roper machine, it's probably one of those newer belt drives, which are pretty bad compared to the direct drive here. The "ruum ruum ruum ruum" you hear during drain is the agitate gear in the transmission moving back and forth when it is disengaged from the agitator shaft. Probably one of the machine's coolest sounds. The reason this machine drains with no spin is because of what's called a neutral drain. The VERY early direct drives actually used to spin drain like the Maytag. However this was changed because of premature wear concerns on the spin gear and spin clutch. So they modified the transmission to have this neutral drain, which makes said parts last MUCH longer. Your speed dial actually IS for the agitation and spin speed (Agitate speed / Spin speed). If you were to move the dial to Heavy Duty while it was washing, the agitate speed would switch to high. Both of your spins were high speed.

What does the “auto temp control” for?

Yes!! Do NOT replace the machine. Replacing the motor is easy too.

The agitator is a “Dual-Action” Agitator I like these Kenmore Washers too. -Charles-

That’s actually a triple-action. Dual action agitators have multiple groves on them, detached from one another.

Actually, this washer & dryer model is an earlier version from 1999. I could tell by less features like two Auto Temp. Control The Kenmore Elite 90 Series with rotary controls and extra features like tons of Fabric selection, such as Hand Wash Fine Plus, three Auto Temp. Control settings, options like Auto Advance after Prewash, Express Wash with extra fast Spin to reduce drying time, the dryer contains Moisture Sensor indicators, which are Wet, Damp, Dry, five Fabric Temperature selector, including Cottons, Normal/Permanent Press with Medium High, Knit/Casual with Medium, Delicate with Ultra Low, Signal Volume knob, Even Heat with Auto Moisture Sensing, followed by Damp Dry and Wrinkle Guard III, 20 minutes of Tumble Free Rack on Time Dry, followed by five minutes of Wrinkle Guard III. One washer model contained Catalyst cycle option for Whitest Whites and Ultra Clean.

It is from 2004. The “R” in the serial # means 2004. Plus it doesn't have the X shaped agitator, since it was only on older models.

It looks like the light bulb in the dryer is blown, it's supposed to be on when the door is open. It's a simple fix however, because the light bulb cover is held in by a single screw; very easy to change the bulb.

The machine is from October 2004, R means 2004 and 43 is the 43rd week of the year. Our 2006 machine is CT1231191, T is 2006, and 12 weeks into the year is march.

No, our machine is from 2006. R is 2004, S is 2005, and T is 2006. Your machines are labeled CR, Clyde, Ohio, 2004. Ours are CT, Clyde, Ohio, 2006.

At 12:15, after the water is emptied, it gets louder during drain. Is that normal?

Yes, because the pump is now not sucking anything in, so it gets louder.

@@isaac24 I just changed out the motor since it's back in stock. It took alot of sweating to get that new motor in. After that, the drain and spin cycle is much quieter. Must be that the old motor was 20 plus years old.

@@isaac24 The next to replace for my machine is the basket, transmission and clutch. I know they are fine for 20 plus years. Do you think it worth all the extra money spend and replace those things now? I don't know if rebuilding my machine as new is worth it while the parts are still available or not. I know that newer HE machines are junk and they won't clean clothes as good.

Do you feel the same way I do about the newer washing machines that have the "idiot" lights on them? And high efficiency......they are total garbage. I just got an old kenmore from FB and so far it is working ok. I think it's from the mid- 2000's. I hope to get a few years out of it.

My dad‘s old house had these but the dryer broke down and he had to get a Samsung smart Dryer, but when he moved he brought the washer with incase the 1990 Whirlpool Top load breaks down

You can adjust the agitator speeds on the control panel. You should be able to select fast agitation/fast spin, slow agitation (which is what it's doing here) and fast spin and so on.
