The most undervalued AMG car in existence. Old school AMG...massive engine in a tiny little car. These cars are rock solid reliable with the M113 engine and an absolute blast to drive. They just dont make cars like this anymore and they probably never will again. The design has aged very well imo, and the interiors of these cars hold up incredibly well.

They are crazy cheap too. Almost all of them are fully loaded and in nice condition, and they don’t carry a big price premium over a regular c class from this time.

@Johnny McKerr not sure C55 will go up in value. Most people only think about w204 C63 which is also a very common car with some 60,000 units. In 2 years owning this car I have only seen 2 other C55s. Both saloons. One parked up in Nice, France and the other came past on my drive home after trip to North Germany this New Year. Only seen a C32 estate in the flesh. This is what drew me to this car. I will never see another on the road meaning it feels special to drive it everytime. I have even seen a couple E55 w210 estates about which is basically a bigger/older version of the same powertrain so even these seem more common.

A great "bang for buck" car! Yes, the gearbox is slow, but it will not break. Steering and brake feel could be better, but happy to trade it off, for a car that has 362hp, and is a fully fledged AMG. 18 yrs old, and mine has no rattles, with an immaculate leather interior at 162kms......and all for $13000 NZD {around $8200USD} - I couldn't find a better quality V8 anywhere, close to this price point. Love it!

Back when cars had character… just a beautiful engine and steering wheel. Bought my third 2006 W211 E55 three years ago in Nov …won’t ever sell again. These were the Pinnacle of AMG engineering times… not just after the almighty $ and cool gadgets with a million buttons.

@Seech old tech. If you work it right though it can be sped up. Best is to absolutely floor it in manual mode in 2nd and then change up around 5-6k rpm while keeping foot firmly planted. Then it up shifts swiftly enough

Great to see another C55 owner daily drive it. This example is daily driven year round 👍 bikes on the roof in summer and party trick for the estate: skiis in the boot using the "special" water proof ski sock which unpacks from the rear seat armrest. Love the practicality of my C55 :)

@Grauekraft not this particular C55 car :) AMG LSD. Had weeping diff seal done recently and learned AMG basically take a diff used in the 320cdi of the era which is much beefier, modify it into LSD and in it goes. Good old school AMG times :) Problem here is 225 winter tyres all round. Doesn't do wonders to grip when driven hard :) Also brakes in this one are 6 pot front and 4 pot rears. It does help with spirited back road driving.

@@KingofInterns Forget about what I wrote. I found out that a previous owner of my car changed to upgraded brake discs (same diameter and thickness, but with holes). As I wanted to change my brake discs I looked it up in the Mercedes shop where I work and they only have classic massive brake discs inside the part system, even though I have the Sport+ package. I dont understand anything what Mercedes had done with the Coupe..

@Grauekraft sport package had drilled rotors and 2 piston on c-class I think. 4 piston on c55 Then there are the 2 piece items (amg perf package I have along with 6 piston callipers) 330mm and 360mm by brembo which are drilled and slotted. Really expensive too. Just replaced my front rotors 330mm as I like 17" wheels for added ride comfort and they were 550 CHF each 😢

I dont like the windnoises of those W203 models to be honest. I wished they would had put more effort into this. If you have bad wind and cruise at 130 km/h it can start to get a bit annoying if you dont listen to music. But other than that they are perfectly fun cars :) (Edit: I have a video of my (more aerodynamic and "special" looking) Coupé accelerating to 250 with very bad wind. Its loud, I can tell you that.. :/

Owner here. It has optional AMG performance package brakes, LSD and 120mm exhaust tips from factory. No AMG shorty headers though so performance is stock. Here in mainland Europe you could choose from a bunch of performance package options at much added cost when ordering :) Iam kind of glad it doesn't feature the alcantara headliner and steering wheel options though

@@KingofInterns ah gotcha. Here in the US we only got a “p30 package” and no standalone LSD option until the facelift W204 C63. The P30 package was the alcantara steering wheel, Nurburgring tuned suspension, upgraded braking components, raised speed limiter, LSD differential, and increased output on some models. The only p30 package here that did NOT get the LSD was the r171 SLK55, sadly. The shorty headers, from my understanding, was only an AMG Performance studio option, and rather expensive at that, based on the SLK55 Black Series. Technically here in the states it’s not a P30 performance package but it’s got all the right options checked off 👍🏼

@C55 VICK fair enough. The wrapped shorty headers and tune (400hp like slk55 black series) is a performance package option. Actually it is cheaper than the brakes so it's a shame the 1st owner didn't stump up the cash and get it :D

You can get a fire extinguisher under the seat by your local merc dealer. It's a mandatory thing in Germany to have installed in your car.

367 HP out of 5.4 liter is quite low for an AMG. Especially as the 600 SEL engine with 6 liter (non-AMG), makes 40 more HP 13 years earlier.

That was a 48 valve V12 and much heavier engine. But they added a supercharger to this in the larger models to make 476-510 bhp

Exhaust isn't optimal on this car. With a little work (headers and tune) 400-420hp can be had. Without headers 390-400hp doable. Good amount of torque though and with a tune 550nm or 400ft pounds easy :)

The power of the M120 was quickly reduced form 408 hp to 389 by removal of full throttle fuel enrichment to cut emissions. It was a great engine but you can't compare a 48 v DOHC V12 to a cheaper and simpler sohc V8. , Even a tuned one. Bear in mind that engine would never fit on a W203 chassis. The M113 really came alive when it became the M113K with minimum 476 hp and 700 nm Torque AND still was bulletproof and easy to service.

It's actually simply indicator that traction control is switched off. I warmed the engine up well enough before this blast so it is fine :) As for noises it's a nearly 20 year old C class that is daily driven year round and never garaged (although well maintained) :)
