so i have never done this stuff before but am mechanically inclined out of sheer necessity of saving 900.00 i am glad you did this vid!

For anyone watching this in the future: Removing the pulley off the power steering pump will be a royal PITA without an impact wrench. However, you cant fit an impact wrench in the small space given. This guys pulley was really loose, but odds are you wont be. I found a video that makes this much easier here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmnKhKF5idGae68

do i need to buy an impact wrench to remove the pulley off the power steering pump?
@TipsyTraveler4 жыл бұрын
@@renceri I read a number of things online on how to do it without one, but none of them worked. You could always buy the wrench ($50) and then return it after?

Curious as to why you refilled the reservoir again after flushing it, when you knew you were going to be pulling the pump...??

all you gotta do is a mity vac or any vacuum pump to suck out all the old fluid, whether it's ps fluid, brake fluid, doesn't really matter
@IY55 жыл бұрын
i think you just had to use a little power steering oil to flush out the lines from contaminants as the pump should be fine if its new.

Cliff I am finally tackling this repair, yes I know 8 months later. lol . Quick question I am having the leaking issue and was wondering, was it the o-rings or the pump in your case that was causing the leak?? I am 4 bottles and several o-rings in. Thanks for the help.
@CliffsHowTo Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, I took the pump back up and swapped it out for another.
@DJDavidValentino1 Жыл бұрын
@@CliffsHowTo I am having to do the same. Looks like it's leaking somewhere behind the pulley. So angry right now.

Hey Cliff, was the whining noise present immediately upon start up or later on after 15-20 minutes of normal driving? I have 2009 and I am thinking it might be the power steering pump too.
@CliffsHowTo2 жыл бұрын
It could whine worse, as the temperature under the hood increases.

@@CliffsHowTo Thank you for the reply. I'm ordering the new pump today. The noise is ridiculously annoying.

So just for the power steering pump, will I have to drop the engine?
@red2g4 жыл бұрын
I think he means lower it a little bit by loosening a motor mount.
@kryptik02 жыл бұрын
For anyone reading this, there is absolutely no need to mess with the motor mount. Remove the bottom bolt first, then rotate the pump out of the way from engine bay which will make it easier to get to the upper bolt.

Nice video. What brand of pump did you use? Did you change brands when you switched due to the leak issues? Looks like the last pump (painted black) was different from the one earlier in the video.

I don’t remember the brand, but it was the one from autozone, with the lifetime warranty.

If you take it to a mechanic, they would probably hit you with at least $500 to do this.

Great vid Cliff, going to replace it myself too, was wondering how dud your power steering go out? Mine was working great but hade a leak on the high pressure line, replaced it with aftermarket, worked great fir a few weeks, and one day on the parking lot while turning left to full right just got hard, cleaned the reservoir n changed fluid to Honda fluid , it was black n had little metal glitter, but still hard steeting, so letting me believe it's the pump, what do u guys think?
