I bought an F150 with leaking AC. The seller suspected a bad evaporater, however there was no refrigerant odor in the cabin. I Replaced all the seals and 4 years later still cold air and no leak. I loved your video, it will be of great use to me if my dash ever has to come out. Thank you for taking the time to share you work with everyone. God bless you and all you love.

Thank you for going thru the tribulation of replacing the entire AC system behind the dash. I've replaced everything under the hood of my 2003 Expedition AC wise and still had a leak in the cabin - you can smell the freon inside when you turn on the system. I have not found a video for my exact truck but the internals of your f150 and my expedition are the same. So thank you again for the video 👍🏾 stay blessed brother ✝️

Great video. I need to remove the dash on my 2009 and you show the steps in an organized clear way. I replaced my blend door actuator in -25C weather a few years ago but went through the radio part of the dash. It was a tight cold fit for my fingers but got it in. This summer the truck had been out of commission for awhile while working on the trailer wiring and removing the transmission pan and doing some repairs and we now have a mouse problem and despite them eating the poison in the truck, they must have nested behind the dash. All kinds of seeds and dust are now blowing through the vents and it smells like dead in the truck. My next plan is to remove the dash and clean it out. It'll be a good time to check and clean everything really well behind the dash. Thanks again for your video. I am a subscriber and hit the like button as everyone should. I learned a lot.

I check the drain that goes through the firewall for clogs and confirmed it’s actively working. Also if I don’t use the A/c for a while it smells musty on start up. I have no idea how to diagnose

BY FAR the best instructional video of dash removal and evap core replacement I have seen ...I do wish you would have shown the actual replacement procedure of the evap unit but I understand the time constraints ... Im trying to get my 08 f150 ac running and to be honest the dash removal and subsequent hoses being "super hard " to detach looks a bit more than Im willing to do... even though I have managed to accomplish several hard repairs on my suspension and exhaust system ... at least if I pay the man to fix it - its warranties on them to do it correctly and maintain it for a limited warranty period ...

Draining the radiator doesn't get the coolant out of the heater core. Just disconnect the quick connects and use a compressor to blow the coolant out of the core before you pull the box away from the inside firewall. Tie the heater core leads up to the top of the intake to keep them from leaking.
@WizardOfWhoopee2 жыл бұрын
I too tie my coolant lines up high to keep from draining the system. Instead of blasting with air, I flush with garden hose so there's nothing inside but clean water.

The blend is a known problem with the F150. That is definitely the problem. It’s easy to replace and fairly inexpensive. You do not need to remove the dash to replace it.

This system does not use an expansion valve. Instead it uses an orifice tube located in the high pressure line between the condenser and accumulator. He shows it in the video.

It's a good video. Good tips. I'm confused about whether you were losing refrigerant (leaking evaporator) or not losing refrigerant (damaged connector pin). I understand you were told it needed the evaporator but if it wasn't losing refrigerant why would you go there? Was the refrigerant already out of the system perhaps? Sorry. Just trying to understand. Is that a Dorman actuator? I've tried those but they usually fail very quickly. I can't see for sure the brand but if you replace those use a Motorcraft/Ford in this case. OEM work better and longer in most cases. My 2 cents.
@resurrectionauto6703 жыл бұрын
Great question. I was pretty confused as well. The root problem was the bad connection on the compressor. Originally the compressor was working so I filled it with Freon. But it never cooled the truck (because the compressor stopped shortly after) I assumed the Freon had leaked out based on the information I received from the original owner. When I cracked the Freon lines during the repair they began to bleed out Freon. I knew then the evaporator was not like the cause but I decided to press on since most of it was already taken apart. You are also correct in that I replaced the actuator with a Dorman product. I have since replaced it again (2 months or so). The second one has failed as well. I am headed to FORD to buy an OEM this weekend. Thank again for your comment.

All that work for an Electrical Connectivity issue. Good Grief. I used an Electronic Leak Detector to confirm my Evaporator Coil is where the Refrigerant leak is. The system was cooling, but I had to top off the refrigerant too often. I'm a Mechanical Engineering Consultant.
@kcretired1032Ай бұрын
Hi David, I to believe that my Evaporator coil is leaking, and when I use the Leak Detector it goes Off at the Firewall above the 2 AC lines and when I put the sniffer into the Heater Core and Evaporator Core Firewall Sponges around the hoses it really Goes off, however when I get into the Cab in open the Glove Box and drop it and Sniff around the Sniffer does Not go Off. This is why we have DIYers as some mechanics cost so much and still couldn't fix the problem. I think that mechanic would have keep on replacing parts. Just wondering if one of those fancy scan tools could have pinpoint the problem? Takes a special person to go through all that. Wow, just wow!
@zachmiller2893 жыл бұрын
It really sounds like the previous owner just took it to a not-so-great mechanic. If the compressor connector was the issue all along the pressures would show normal meaning there’s no leak. If there’s no leak then there’s no need to replace the evaporator. One of the first checks with A/C work after confirming refrigerant is in the system is making sure the compressor is being commanded on and actually engaging. I just think the previous diagnosis was not really a diagnosis at all and just guess work. Just my two cents.
@chrisa11253 жыл бұрын
@@zachmiller289 Maybe the compressor was actually the original problem but when the mechanic put it back together he broke the connector which caused a 2nd problem. Having said that, the mechanic should have been able to troubleshoot it to that bad connector on the 2nd visit.

@resurrectionauto6703 жыл бұрын
So sorry! That must be miserable!
@easycomeeasygo89013 жыл бұрын
@@resurrectionauto670 it was very miserable and frustrating. Equally as frustrating was that it took three weeks for me to get all the necessary Parts because of the pandemic. Further update: the dashboard itself was not too bad to remove. Two additional steps I took to make it easier for me was: I remove the passenger airbag which allowed me to see that hidden bolt at the top that secures the dash to the can. Likewise on the speedometer side I remove the speedometer and that allowed me to see those two bolts at the top. This really helped me out not too much extra work. Next part that kicked my butt: two of the three studs that holds the heater core box in stripped out of the plastic side of the box. These are the three studs that have nuts on them that you need to remove from within the engine compartment. I'm going to have to JB Weld them back in or something. The final headache before removing the Box was the air vent that's attached to the bottom of the box. The rest of the air vent is under the carpet which I can't get too because the dashboard is on the carpet now. So there are four bolts holding it on to the bottom of the box and of course one of the bolts is nearly impossible to get to... nearly 🤣, I'm definitely not putting that one back. I start the Box disassembly next hopefully it's all downhill from here. I am merely just trying to help the other people that will be using this video. And it is a good video it's the one I used I feel it's pretty straightforward and thorough. As you know there's always the fine print "your experience May differ"🤣. I do one more final update
