There were FOUR cat 5 storms in a single season, while over the past two decades Cat 5 storms rarely occured and mostly there would be only one in a particular season. There were a few season in the 50s and sixties that had TWO Cat fives. 2005 was a record for most named storms and SEVEN major Hurricanes along with several Cat 1, Cat 2 storms.

This is a System made by the weather center of us. The Names Orbit Every 6 Years. Hurricane Names that Had Many Deaths will be Removed Forever. This is Called Retiring. Katrina, Rita, and Wilma were retired in 2005. However, If the Hurricane Reaches high windspeeds, but doesn't kill anyone, they are not retired. This Year, Irma, Harvey, Jose and Maria are Retired. The Rotation: 2005 (harvey) > 2011 > 2017 (harvey gets retired)

Normally Eastern Pacific hurricanes create wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico which weaken storms but since they werent there and the Gulf of Mexico was extremely warm any storm that entered it had a huge amount of warm water to strengthen.

Nope, Eta. Additionally, the NHC started naming subtropical cyclones using the current year’s naming list in 2002, and that year actually had a subtropical storm - Gustav. P.S. - If Gamma was split into two systems, then yes, the season WOULD have gone up to Theta.
