2005 Corvette - Fixing cranking/no start issue

I was having a sporadic no stat issue with the Corvette.
The car would try to crank - but wouldn't fire off.
I researched the issue on Corvetteforum.com - and it turns out there is a common problem with the wiring under fuel pump relay.
I had replaced the relay - but that didn't permanently fix the problem.
In this video I take the fuse panel apart - and find the fuel pump relay pin pushed down into the socket. I pushed the pin back up - and put everything back together.
Thanks everyone for all of your support!
Send me stuff!

You're a hero around here. My fuel tank read empty, after running the codes, it recommended to replace the fuel sensor relay. However, after watching your video, I changed out all larger fuses, cleaned out one of the harness terminals, now it works.

Great job! That is a whole lot easier then dropping the tank! Run a can of Techron through the tank - that is a recommended cleaner to run through the system.

I just had the engine light come back on after two weeks, maybe my plastic of the panel can handle the heat of the engine? Any part numbers for me so I can get a replacement. GM did a headlight recall on the fuse box or fuse panel, but didn't put any new plastic replacement parts. I'm guessing that plastic warp and still warps when it gets hot. Any ideas?

I just fixed mine last night finally. It was losing fuel pressure/pump even at highway speeds. 😬 So I got in there and bent the pin. Mine looked exactly like yours. I added a small section of braided wire and stuffed it behind the pin to give it a little extra support. From the rear. I also brushed the contacts to expose fresh metal. Thanks again!

I talked to you before when having this problem and I just took the relay out and pushed it back in and it started. Then...it started doing it again and a wiggle would sometimes work but it finally just died. So I watched this 10 times and took my box apart and sure enough the little plug was pushed down. I pushed it back as best I could and now it works.😊 I am going to replace that plug, or maybe that modular come springtime after the snow melts.

SIr, My Vet died at a vacation spot in Galveston Texas and we had it towed to a Chevy dealership in Texas CIty. I told them of the problem you had but they did not listen and they "fixed" it by replacing the starter and some other stuff at $1300. A week later it died at an elementary School in Kemah. I was furious and let them know their incompetence and told them about your fix and when i got it back they said they "fixed" it by replacing the bad battery and promised the problem had been solved. When I got home I checked the fuse box and all the fused had been replaced. Apparently they listened but would not give you the credit!! Thanks again!!!

I'm still having issues, sometimes driving the interstate at 80mph, dies, and coast to a shoulder. Sometimes, sitting at a light, dies (the worse). I solderd a small bead onto the mail leg that goes into the grey box connector, no issues for a week, then it died again...So, on the side of the road, I disassemble the box (now I can do it in 3 minutes), noticed the solder bead was brittle and fell off the male leg, so I took my pliers and bent the leg a little towards the passenger side of the car so it would make better contact to the connecting pin, started, but afraid to trust it, but what choice do I have! I found out that the grey box that contains the recessed pin is the "engine harness" and to try and buy just the grey block so to knock it apart and grab a decent pin to replace the worn out one is not working out. Used parts guys want $300+ for the harness with the "pin box" or GM wants $500+. Tomorrow, I'm going to bend the corresponding male leg a bit more, and Tuesday I'm driving 1000 miles to St. Louis, and what ever happens, happens. I wish we could hear from others who have "officially" resolved this issue! One video, a guy spliced into the four wire corresponding with the 4 legs to the relay, and set it Outboard of the fuse panel, bought a heat sink that would take the size of the relay, added a 20 amp in line fuse and had not heard back if all is good after so many months...Very little room for splicing wires. BTW, my relay gets super hot, wonder if his solder is holding up? Again, an update would be great.... In case someone got this thing figured out, please e mail me your fix...yyzazz@aol.com....Also, when I return from a 2500 round trip to St. Louis, I'll update my situation. RayJ

I’m having the same issue on my 2006 Z06. Happened a few times intermittently over the past few years. What a pain in the ass! Only difference is my relays aren’t super burnt but there is some discolouration. Inside where the pin is it’s not discoloured but I noticed the pin has a bit of movement. There’s got to be a permanent fix for this..??

Racetronix hotwire harness is where it's at. Better pump performance from higher voltage, and you negate this problem because your higher current part of the circuit is now just used to trigger the relay so it no longer has that higher amperage load on it. The load is taken directly off the alternator.

That eliminates the steering column lock pin. You could simply try to grab and wiggle the wire harnesses going into the fuse panel - and see if that helps. It could be a loose wire.

Hello- same issue with my 2012 GS. I just can't figure out how to remove the fuse box to expose the connectors. How did you do it? @bonecrrusherSS
@bonecrrusherSS 2 жыл бұрын
Remove the 4 or 5 bolts from the top - remove the top half and expose the plastic junction boxes below it. To split the grey connector - lift up on the tabs and it will split apart. That green tab just holds the wires in - and should pull out from the side.

I have what I think it this exact same problem except I have it on a 2006 Cadillac XLR. I disassembled the fuse box and had a noticeably depressed connector just like the one in the video. But I can't seem to get the connector to stay in the proper place. I put it back together and it works for a bit, but after a day or so, I get the same cranking/no start issue and when I look again, the connector is back depressed down. How did you get yours to stay in place? Any suggestions for how I might? Because just pushing it up doesn't secure it. It just gets pushed down again.

@newfie-dean5803
@newfie-dean5803 5 жыл бұрын
chris Hodges you should not have to remove the two 10mm bolts as those simply hold on the piece housing the wiring harness connectors. Just remove the power wire to the box and then loosen those 7mm bolts inside the relay box. They don’t come out but you have to turn them enough to release them from the wiring harness connectors. You keep turning them and at some point they will feel as though they are tightening again, keep turning a bit more and at some point you will be able to lift up on the relay box and it will detach from the connectors. If you cannot lift up the box then you have not loosened the 7mm bolts enough.
