I was there. When Danica came out in first place, the place went NUTS. It was even crazier at 174 laps. I am a huge fan of hers, I only wish she had continued to race Indy every year.

I saw Danica complete her last lap as a race car driver, at the 2018 Indy 500. I wish I'd been there for here rookie Indy 500 in this 2005 race, but at the time I was only making it there about half the time. What a great race. Hype or no hype, Danica could really drive competitively, and now is quite an interesting intellectual. It was also nice to see a B-2 flyover at this race, which I've only seen in person once, at the 2002 Indy with one of my kids, who was 14 at the time. To everyone complaining about the video being posted with the wrong aspect ratio, there are ways of dealing with that at the user end if you care that much, by downloading it and using a viewer of your choice instead of just using KZbin streamed viewing. If they'd posted it at 4:3 they probably would have reduced the resolution to 480p, not that I've figured out what resolution master they created this from, how they processed it to 1080p, or whether I could do it better. But I'd bet if I squeeze this from 16:9 to 4:3 in another viewer, it will look better than if they posted this as 480p 4:3. Or at least as good, anyway.

89th Running Of Indianapolis 500 in 05 the year Danica Patrick was a rookie also led 15 laps aswell. 5150 Green Flag 1:09:14 1st caution A.J Floyt 4th got wrecked by driver that 5 laps down 1:28:07 Danica takes lead for 1st time ever.

In Danica's home town Roscoe ILL there is a museum there THE AUTO MUSEUM (and no its not dedicated to Danica Patrick) But it has lots of cool stuff and its only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day if your a history buff you will love this place

They got a completely new chassis and engine in 2012 and have updated them 3 times since then. But yes, they do try to keep the same base chassis design for 10 years or so

@@lockerracing7121 The 3-updates have been bodywork only - aero. Still the same old stale fish in a new wrapper. And these cars were nothing to write home about when they first came out. Yesterdays technology back then even. Compared the groundbreaking Lotus38, McLaren M16c, and Chapparal 2k they were low tech kit cars. And now they are surely the ugliest open wheel racing car ever built!

Back in those days I hated Danica, I couldn't stand all of the love, hype and adoration she received in the lead up to the 500, felt she didn't do anything to earn it other than look pretty. I've also hear horror stories from fans about how she treated them during fan interactions, basically she'd act rude and never wanted to be there. As the years went on I was able to find an appreciation for everything she had accomplished in racing and what she had done to bolster attention for Indycar. Today I consider myself a Danica Patrick fan, just not a big one.

I understand why they made such a big deal about Danica, it was historic, but it got tired very early on... She should have stayed in Indycar. She really was good in the car, but moving to nascar just set her up for a heel turn and a whole bunch of crashing... Nascar and indycar aren't the same sport. She could have been one of the greatest of all time, in an Indycar. Also, there should have been more coverage of the performance of Brian Herta and Dan Weldon. They both drove excellent races, and it was barely mentioned.

Todd Harris was an absolute disaster. ABC had shoved Paul out the door to make Harris the new voice of Indy car racing and he bombed so bad they dumped him after only a year.

@@epaddon Reminds me of Jim Lampley calling a couple 500s in the 80s, and he was arguably worse than Harris. I don't know what goes on in the minds of TV executives, they tend to think being young and handsome makes you qualified for the job.
