I compared this video and others with the same task and I must say you did good by positioning the camera in the right spot. Good job!

I seen a lot of people pull the heater core pipe off but I liked how you just loosened it so u could move it just a lil without pulling it off

Taking off the manifold heat shield makes removing the engine block thermostat easy. I needed a breaker bar to loosen several bolts - talk about star torqued (tightening till you see stars). The grey heater core pipe took some patience getting pulled off also. I had drained about a gallon of coolant (I call it coolant, it looked like swamp water) still splashed some taking off the hose. The bottom bolt on the hose group component was a bitch to get out but went back a lot faster. All in all this isn't an all morning job, an hour or hour and a half if it's a battle. Replaced the coolant with Peak International. If you're changing the oil too, the pan is on the passenger side, 14mm plug, 4.5 quarts of 5w 30 if putting on a new filter. I've read it's 4 quarts if not replacing the filter.

Great video, did you use sealer, gasket or both on the water control valve housing?
@jonathangutierrez17593 жыл бұрын
Bro the upper thermostat on this video has already been replaced and installed backwards. The original upper thermostat installation by Nissan is “spring side” in to the valve head. Can you please double check and verify this info, as this video will be very misleading for many, possibly causing unwanted future heat issues, as premature head gasket issues are very common on this type of Nissan engine.

Jonathan Gutierrez: The OEM from Nissan upper thermostat will never fit the way you mention . i have tried it. after market will work spring facing in the cylinder block. Nissan OEM upper thermostat (21230-6N20A) is little bigger to make it fit spring facing in cylinder block.

Good video but it would've been helpful to add the torque specs for each bolt or nut.

on my non OEM thermostat I did not notice any arrow to show if there was an "up" side to it. Maybe I missed it? Do non-OEM parts not have the arrow?

Is this the same for 2000 Nissan Altima

For both thermostats they have to have the spring portions facing into the engine block and head,or else you will not get the proper heat.
@filpinoymechanic1484 жыл бұрын
The thermostat by the cylinder head,the spring is outside by the housing,I got the diagram for it ,and if you bought the oem parts it will not fit if you put the spring facing the cylinder head
@guesswho22374 жыл бұрын
fil pinoy mechanic is there a special grease you put around the thermostat what did you use ?
@sbond19634 жыл бұрын
Is it leaking from there or did you just have some other problem? I have a mysterious leak in front somewhere and I can't find it

Do the arrows on the thermostat that say top with arrow up matter is the arrow supposed to be straight up, u never showed us that
@leedclinton5026 Жыл бұрын
What brand of thermostats used?
@squirrelcovers6340 Жыл бұрын
The spring side of the thermostat goes into the engine block. THIS IS BACKWARDS.
@RedRabbit42309 ай бұрын
The lower one the spring does go to the inside of the block. The upper one the spring faces out towards the housing cover. Just as the video showed you to have do it 4 yrs ago. Go back and REWATCH THE VIDEO......

It might be your water pump leaking coolant little by little. You can smell it if there’s leak on the belt side of the engine. Yes, there’s 2 thermostat. I replaced mine last week even nothing’s wrong with the thermostats along with water pump.

Have you noticed why the water control valve and the thermostat are not the same Opening temperature?
