Our Corolla just exhibited the fault exactly as you showed, I've been dreading monkeying with the airbag and clockspring until you demonstrated how easy it is. I'm an old fart and have worked on horn ring and brush in the past so you brought me out of the 1990s. well done.

Thanks, I had the same fault with my daughters 2000 model and followed your instructions and sorted it. I did find that I could get the switch out without removing the steering wheel, I just turned the wheel until I could get to each screw. Cheers, James

Great video ZIG for our similar, if not the same model! Spent a lot of time looking for the headlight relay and after seeing the video made a lot more sense. Tactical Sunday repair here too. @David Hunter good tip and just needed to move the steering wheel 90 degrees left and right to remove the screws. Top cover is a bit dicky to get off and back on.

great video I have replaced the switch just like in your video however i just removed the plastic surround by undoing the screws by turning steering wheel removing switch unit like you no airbag or steering wheel removal needed

i like that jacket Ziggy. thumb up on knowing whats going on before taking anything apart fix. my harley let me me ride her to heart doc and back but then would not start again a few weeks ago. no fuel pump start up. i cleaned the contacts on the shut off handlebar switch. solved that problem. i could hear the pump start up but still would not start. so search for the kill switch i go. they hide it above the battery on a plastic holding platform. dealer forgot to put it back in its slot. it just laid on the battery and vibration slide off the side and dangled until i found it. not a quick easy fix. i should have asked you for help. lol i need a repair manual for my harley. its the street 750. small bike with a nice sized motor. just right for these old muscles. the cost over $200 for the manual. so i search n search. i ask around wheres the kill switch. maybe i should have pd someone to at least diagnose then fix myself. i found pdf file from England. $14. there it is the kill switch right above the battery. in i go again. there it is dangling in the dark. once placed in its holder she vrooming as im smiling. now i have a new battery new fuel pump new relay switch's new mini fuses a new test light and meter... yes Ziggy some back yard mechanic i turned out to be. i just needed glass's. but i did learn.... theres 3 different size mini fuses to boot. the bikes vrooming again and im all smiles.

Yes they are called "Security Torx"...You can replace the switch without removing the steer wheel.

You must disconnect negative terminal before disconnect AirBag

Yes it's good practice to disconnect the battery but if the ignition is not turned on the air bad will not go off...Cheers.

Frank. T easy as mate, once the Column surrounds are off its very easy, they are little plastics tabs you need to push in and it slides out.

TO REMOVE THE COMBINATION SWITCH YOU NEED TO REMOVE STEERING WHEEL? DON'T FOLLOW THIS METHOD. Just remove the ignition key and combination switch covering by removing 3 screws. To remove two of those screws you have to turn on engine and turn extreme right and left to make two screws visible.

Yep exactly one headlight works and intermittent.Hey guys all the free service air bag recalls we ignore, just bring it in for the free service and have them replace the points while the got the steering wheel off

This one neither worked but you knew by the smell there was something funky going on in the switch...No recall on this one...Any SRS recalls that are ignored will have the rego cancelled this year.

@@ziggassedup Thanks for the heads up... so I DID call Toyota before going over for the repair, said Yes air bag warrantee is still in effect free repair to pull all the steering wheel assembly apart. I'm going to have them replace the points wether they are good or bad as the car is 18 years old figured save hundreds in service bill doing it this way- Thank you air bag recall!

You don't have to remove the steering at all, just turn it and you will be able to see to screws facing you, undo them and the one under then remove the cover, you'll meet the combination switch.

@@ziggassedup I did not remove the steering but I was rushed and I removed the airbag, before I realised I shouldn't remove the steering then the horn has stuck, I reinstall it couple of times, then today I ordered spring clock . To see if this the problem!!!

@@ehabismail4600 When you say horn got stuck you mean stuck on.?...That wouldn't be the clock spring...You may have a wire issue.
