Please consider renting/buying the full movie: itunes.apple.com/us/movie/wavemakers/id915156573 “Amazing! A film as beautiful and tender as the instrument itself.” - Jonny Greenwood, composer, multi-instrumentist (Radiohead) “Martel’s is an intriguing chronicle of the Martenot with engaging instruction.” - ARTFORUM “Wavemakers is a worthy companion to 1994’s Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey.” - Film Comment “A monument that will leave a mark in the history of electronic lutherie, and even find a place in music history.” - Jean-Marc Fontaine, sound recordings preservationist Université Pierre et Marie Curie / Sorbonne (Paris) “Playful, poetic, and profound. Inventively blending a wide range of documentary forms…” - David Schwartz, chief curator, Museum of the Moving Image (NY) “A work whose clarity belies uncommon complexity.” - Bruno Dequen (24 images)

Is this Caroline Martel with Jonny or Suzanne Binet-Audet?
@jennamontgomery32228 жыл бұрын
Suzanne Binet-Audet. She's amazing to hear and watch play; although, I think she's recently retired from playing professionally. So exciting to see her and Jonny together!!

Jonny is probably the most interesting figure in what we think of as the rock era. Enigmatic on stage, a genius in the studio and as a composer, totally mesmerizing in interviews. And attractive in a way that apparently a lot of us hetero guys find a bit disorienting.

As a singer (and an instrumentalist) I will say this: anyone can sing once they learn the techniques and more importantly learn to accept their unique vocal range and quality and accept their unique vocal limits too. I don't have a huge range (only 2 octaves) but most material I want to do falls easily within that or can be finessed a bit. So, perhaps he is too shy or doesn't like his vocal sound or can't sing like someone with a truly gifted vocal ability such as David Bowie (in terms of natural tone and amazing range not to mention his technical skill) or Tom York, etc. No matter. The idea about singing is that it is YOU and you gotta accept that you will sound like you and no one else. It is an art that represents you without any artificial interface (i.e., instruments). That is the beauty of singing! Truly unique and emotional because our voice connects directly with our soul ....while all other instruments are a step removed from our soul.

i think it's an unearthly combination of intelligence, patience, humility and fascination with this extraordinary man. always struck by a child-like shyness and sense of wonder which he seems to have miraculously maintained through the trials of this world. an antithetical maturity then presents itself in his ability to relate to and work so well with other people, even obviously difficult-albeit tremendously talented ones (thom). lastly, the apparent wisdom to be able to consistently intuit which pursuits are worthwhile?! hard to believe that such people still exist within advanced entropy. perhaps impossible, as a musician, or any artist, to avoid being envious. the darker part of me wonders what the inevitable dark part of him must be. how dark might be the shadow of such a brightness, how deeply flawed the yang.
