The 4.6 3v has to be understood in historic context. The 4.6 was first released in 2v form in 1991 and made 190hp and 260ft/lb. It was a more power dense and reliable/durable/smooth engine then any that came before it. The last iteration of the 4.6, released in the S197 Mustang made 315hp/325ft/lb. The engine had essentially a run of a little under 20 years before a new design (Coyote) came out in 2011. Over its lifespan it increased in power and efficiency by about 165.8%. The Coyote (in the Mustang) started at 412 and now 10 years later it’s increased in power and efficiency by 120%. The Coyote realistically probably had about 7 years or so left in its run and it’s a great motor but it’s doubtful it will see the kinds of power increase percentages that the 4.6 has from start to finish. To equal it it would have to hit 688hp NA. The 3v also doesn’t have a tick and overall has been a more reliable motor. The bullet proof 2v version has seen Crown Vics hit 1,000,000 miles all original motor. The Coyote is an excellent motor, but when looked at in historic context, the 4.6 Ford is also an incredible success story. Their was a reason the 3v was named to Wards best engine list multiple years in a row during its run.

Here is what your review should have said, “You get an affordable American car that does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, with a bulletproof 5 speed manual transmission and a top that drops so you can hear the symphonic sound of 8 thumping cylinders through a duel exhaust. It’s comfortable, has a great stereo and you can seat 4 people. There are not many cars out there that check those boxes. There is great aftermarket support and if you want more speed, just slap on a supercharger and upgrade the suspension. The design is still unique and has held up over time. Add in a few of the known issues like door panels coming unglued and peeling hood paint, along with two piece plug design in the 05-07 years to keep it honest.

It never needed more power. It came at a time when there was no Camaro or Challenger in production and 300 hp then was a lot. This car was the inspiration for the resurrection of the Camaro and Challenger. If you tune that car, put underdrive pulleys on it and get a good tune it is a day and night difference over stock. Stock it feels slow.

Young man. You sound SILLY. My 06 3valve vert with modest mods runs 13.0 @ 105mph. Your talking out your but. I'm SURE I'm running 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.

Fast Plumber. You are too young to realize this but in 2005 when the 4.6 came out in the Mustang it was one of the fastest 0-60 cars around. 5.5 seconds. I know that is not fast now but at the time it was. The 5.0 Coyote didn't exist. Your video stating that this car was not a fast car is only viable today not when the car came out. I bought one new in 2006.

Me personally I had a Mustang I've been a Mustang fan for a long time since I was a teenager .That Mustang can do 0 to 60 faster than that. he was just taking his time shifting it. really?😄 and that's with any muscle car you have to open that engine up to get to 0 to 60 mph.

The reason why it’s hard to put into gear is cause it IS a short throw shifter 😐.
