Ironic that just last month I had a #3 cylinder misfire on my 09 Taurus X . I swapped the plug and coil pack from cylinder 3 and 4 . If the coil or plug was bad , my code would have changed to the next cylinder . It didn't . So next I used my multimeter to check continuity between the coil and pcm pin 12 on the wiring harness which was fine . So that tells me there is no coil driver output from the PCM . Installed new PCM . Problem fixed . Simple basic procedure . I'm surprised two other shops couldn't figure that out before they brought it to you . Great video as always .
@jasonchristopher29772 жыл бұрын
Why I trust him and ppl like you who actually do the work. Not just say you need new plugs, coils, and if that don't work maybe a pcm or wiring, all the while charging $60+ hr and maybe the issue is fixed. If more mechanics would chase successful work as much as money, this would be a better place for customers.

If you were at Nav corporate, using the logic probe would get you fired. The mismanagers in charge had never heard of a logic probe before and did not understand how to use a logic probe, super simple. It was so sad to see such fools in charge of service documentation. They were pretty dumb and arrogant at the same time. I completely agree with how you dignosed that. You would get an A+ from me and a failing grade from the alcoholic managers. They stopped learning in the 70's.

Got an EEC-V computer, failures got more common when Ford started to .mounted them with the connector outside the cabin. The EEC-IV were even worse, they don't want to be outside like the newer Motorola PCM. When a Ford PCM fails, the driver relays stick to ground. Used to have the fuel pump relay stuck ON, or a fuel injector would stick and fill a cylinder. When something is stuck grounded out, the PCM is suspicious or the PCM Relay.

You're awesome! Great job! You maybe getting more customers coming to your dealership as I have been recommending Dundee Ford in East Dundee. I also have a quick question Rich nobody has been able to help me with. The transmission filter won't stay in the transmission. Twice now on my '07 Town Car I have done a fluid and filter change and both times the transmission filter was laying in the bottom of the pan with the seal still on the filter. I only purchase Motorcraft transmission filters. Do you know what causes this or if Ford is having any problems with the transmission filters?

Hey Rich, hope you’re doing great this Monday morning. I’m just gonna get to the point of my comment. This past Friday, my Pops purchased a 2017 Transit 250 with 77k miles on it. I want to do the transmission service of drop and fill on it with the filter change. Is it possible to drop the transmission pan to do the job, or does the subframe get in the way? And if so, how many quarts of transmission fluid would I need to do the simple drop and fill? Hope to hear from you, and thank you for your honest input on the videos that you post 🤙🏽🤙🏽

That was an AMAZING diagnosis Sir!!! You know, in my thirty years of doing this for a living, the one thing I'm always nervous about, to this day is when diagnosis leads to a module replacement. Almost every time when that is the next step, I question myself over and over again, did I miss or overlook any other steps? And we're not talking about FICMs on 6.0L diesels that almost every one of them would need replacing at some point. Those CMP sensors and synchronizers used to wear out on those 3.0L too. I replaced a lot of those on the Taurus from the early to mid 2000s with that same engine. BTW, where did you get that fancy Dancy tool of yours? I think I'm going to need to score one for myself, along with a decent jumper wire set.

I had a 1995 Dakota Club Cab 5.2L 4x4 SLT once. In 2006 the thing started misfiring, running a few minutes and dying, not restarting, and acting just insane. I checked for codes with my OBD2 tool. No codes. This made no sense, so on a hunch, using the last $600 I had at the time (was in college getting a second degree) I purchased a new PCM. When it arrived I swapped it in (I had to give the company my VIN and other info) and she ran like she was new. In 2006 or 2007 it died again. Apparently, the PCM in 1995 and 1996 Dakotas was prone to failing every ten or so years.

But after trying Turtle wax hybrid solutions over months and months of washing and it's performance, if the nano tech is anything like tribotex, maybe possible? I've tried alot of Snake oils. The only thing that has really worked is Marvelous Mystery oil, and the cans of oil, trans and diff additives like you use. Had success with head gasket sealers, but always eventually fail in long run. Idk. It's $100 for a kids size tylenol syringe full. Thank you for your time. I rely on your wisdom and knowledge. Lousy environmentally friendly solder that’s used in the circuit boards that doesn’t have the expansion and contraction characteristics of good old lead based solder and that leads to cracked solder joints.
