Tough question. Assuming comparison to a 290 Sea Ray: they are alike in the fact they are both 30’ open bows. However I truly believe they are different boats. In a single engine application (shooting from the hip) the Sea Ray is 1350 lbs heavier, 4” wider, 2” shorter if both have extended platforms. It’s symmetrically impossible for the Four Winns to outride the Sea Ray due to the width and weight difference. However there’s ZERO question that the Four Winns outperforms the Sea Ray 100% of the time in this comparison. If an owner wants a big bow-rider that will perform well and wants to do any water sports at all, the 290 Horizon is the better choice. If a buyer wants a big bow-rider to cruise comfortably in rough water, the 290 BR/SLX is the better choice. The Four Winns will run at a higher speed at a lower rpm range making far more economical to operate during water sport speed ranges.

In Missouri you just have to have a permit that’s roughly $175 for the year.
