Thank you for taking the time to post this. It helped tremendously! Thanks for the step by step description. I have a 2005 Pilot (4X4 Touring) with 206,000 miles. It's been through harsh winters and scorching summers. Every single system, knob, switch, EVERYTHING works on it just like when it was new. It still rides like new. I have replaced the radiator and thermostat. The O2 sensors are probably the next thing to go. I maintain it well and it takes very good care of me. It is the best car I have ever owned. Anyway, thanks again. You showed me exactly what I was looking for. I actually just needed to replace the serpentine belt, but now i know how to do the alternator.

This video was great. The wife and I recently bought an 06 Pilot and the alternator went out on it today while waiting for my daughter to get out of school. Changing it out tomorrow and I'll be approaching the job with much more confidence. Appreciate the play by play man, great job!

Thanks a ton. Used your video today to change my 08 pilot alternator and it was super smooth because of you. Advance auto for $180 with $27 core.

Thank you - great video! Replaced my alternator today thanks to your help. Had to remove the radiator overflow tank then move over slightly the black reservoir next to it on my 07 to get it out but all that was easy. Car sure acts weird when the alternator is bad..

Always, always, always disconnect AT LEAST the negative battery terminal when working on ANY components that have a direct connection to the battery (starter, alternator, etc.) because if you ground out when removing and replacing the positive lead from the alternator or starter you risk damage not only damage to the alternator, battery and fuses but also to the ECM.

Thanks for the video, just changed mine over the weekend. Did the work just as you described. Bought a re-manufactured from Advance auto for 136.00 with a lifetime warranty, they had a 25% off special. Thanks again!

This was invaluable while I was trying to replace the alternator in my 2006 Acura MDX (the engine compartment is nearly identical to the Pilot). Thanks so much for sharing! =D

Thanks man, I would've gone berserk trying to find the 3/8" indentation to move the tensioner pulley. Way to give that water beetle a lift home, too!

Thanks, useful video... so my new alternator would not fit into the lower bracket mounting span. Apparently the bushings (at the lower mounting hole), are designed to move, so I fashioned a press using a large Diameter socket a 3" bolt, washer and two nuts. I was able to move the bushing, and open the span, made it possible to reinstall the new alternator. Just wanted to post this in case anyone else had the same problem....

Thanks. Having that problem right now reinstalling the new one

You’ve got to get the pilot tensioner over farther. That’s why it was tight. Reposition the socket on the tensioner so that you can get more leverage against it and push it over more.

I just performed this procedure, and for me, disconnecting the outflow hose from the PS pump was the only way I could access the needed room to remove this heavy, clumsy lump without fear of wreaking havoc to the electronics, a/c and hydraulic lines in the way. Not a big deal - just used my clamp wrench and a bunch of paper towels, and suddenly there was JUST enough room to remove it. Note that you still have to align the alternator just so to clear the big a/c line in the way.

Before pulling the alternator, remove the coolant reservoir + pull the PS oil reservoir off its mounting bracket....then you will have ample room to remove and reinstall. Even the Honda shop manual does not always specify interference removal....guess they expect their mechanics to understand that. Good video overall, man you must live in a rust belt state or wintering state with salted roads...lots of rust in your engine compartment...

I live in pa. Bought my 06 pilot from southern VA. It was perfect underneath. Got it under coated. Best thing I ever did.

Don’t forget to have your timing chain/water pump replaced at that mileage

Followed this, changed alternator, tensioner pulley( the top bolt you put wrench on was cracked, had to remove tire and use bottom botl to get off.) new belt, everything has been running smooth for like 6 months. today, lose power, loose belt, pop hood, alternator bouncing around. the BOTTOM 14MM bolt , the metal was cracked off where this bolt is supposed to tighten, so it just spins around. Have no idea how to fix, as it seems the top mount plate often is an issue, and there are tons of web posts about it, but nothing about the bottom bolt. Any ideas?

How the hell does the bracket go back on? Is the bracket in its own hole and then the alternator just attached to bracket or is alternator attached to bracket and engine? Ugg

U da man. I'm going to... get the alternator... not the mechanic. Thanks a lot.

How do you know when to replace the starter or the alternator? Just replaced the battery and it starts unlike any other Pilot or V6 Honda product ..

I have an 07 pilot, my tension pulley is different. It has a torx screw and when I turn it counter clockwise it does not loosen the pulley. It just spins, anyhelp would be great.
@SnyperMD8 жыл бұрын
Perhaps there is an additional place for attachment. My Civic's tension pully attachment is separate from the belt disc. You may be able to find out by looking at your engines diagram on Honda or you can go to an auto parts store and skim through a Chilton book on the shelf.

+Robert SnyperMD thanks. I will try that, I've been looking at so much stuff I can't remember what I've looked at

Sorry but how many amps alternator is that?
@BuckeyeMCS8 жыл бұрын
Was your Battery light on in the dash?
@thenextceo8 жыл бұрын
Mine was on, first I replaced the battery (it was old anyway) and dash light stayed on afterwards. Alternator made a humming sound when running (not a normal hum) and dash light went out after I replaced it on my 07.

That fkin water beetle 😂. I came to see how to get the bottom mount and bottom bolt in but I guess not. Smdh lol.

Take motor mount bolt out. Jack up motor makes everything easier to get to.

I can't watch anymore. The amount of rust and build up on that breaker bar has me all discombobulated. It feels like he's doing this exchange in a muddy trench during WWI..
