I've searched all of youtube and did not find a repair video for a 2006 Scion Xb. I've decided to start an official 1st video fuel pump replacement for our 1st generation box. My box has 190,000 miles with the original pump. The pump still runs well with no performance issues. I'm going to replace the pump due to its service age and not risking being stranded on the road. I hope this video helps our fellow 1st generation box lovers.
Enjoy the video!

This has to be one of the most cleanest, thorough and professional DYI videos I've ever seen! I own a 2006 5 speed xB, first owner. Just turned 106K miles. Bought it with 18 miles and it's awesome! Been having some acceleration issues and think this is the culprit. Seen other videos but after yours, I'm now considering DYI'ing it. I hope you create more DYI vids for your Scion. Will you be creating a video regarding the fuel injectors? Thank you.

Jeepjedi, I appreciate your compliment. Most likely in the near future I'll do the injectors replacement. Read also my other replies. I've always maintained my air filter súper clean using k&n and now the generic spectre on Amazon. Clean filtered air along with clean engine oil and using a steady gasoline diet like shell will result clean well performing injectors. Just did mine last year at 215,000 miles. No injector issues just decided to replace them so that my toaster engine keep running with no hiccups. Good luck with your pump repair! Also make sure your negative ground cable is clean and acid rust free. God bless.

I have found that if you use a paint pencil to draw a line across all the different parts before taking it apart that it makes it simple to make certain that parts are lined up. In this case, draw a line from about an inch across the fuel pump housing, the retainer ring, and an inch onto the fuel tank housing. No doubt whatsoever where everything goes when put back together.

Really most helpful Deville429. It is folks such as you that gives others the confidence to take on these types of projects. I'm only at the disconnection stage on my 05 toaster, but heading towards replacement of the fuel pressure regulator and the filter, probably the sock also. Just wanted to mention my '05 xB has 2 electrical connections and is oriented a bit differently than your '06, my white fuel connection has a bracket over it and approaches the tank from rear of the vehicle. I have a black colored connector for a vapor sensor, minor subtleties that pose no real issue, thanks to the confidence you have provided. Another video somewhat helpful to the process, specifically a little more detail on the bench seat bottom removal is : kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4i4hJqYi7h9b5Y (Daily Driver Down, by Jester's Garage) Mad props to both of you for all the helpful details necessary to take this on.

Thank you for this excellent video Sir. It was very helpful! I have an xa. I wanted to share my experience: Careful when you buy the replacement fuel pump! My car occasionally stops as I am driving along, I have to go over to the shoulder and restart. I saw your vid and assumed it could be the fuel pump. I bought the fuel pump but noticed the terminal connector was slightly off, a bit shorter. I installed it anyway. Car would crank but not start up. I took it out and put in the old fuel pump back in. The car starts now.. any ideas on what might cause the car to stop as I drive along the road?
@Deville429
@Deville429 2 жыл бұрын
Hola 1aninterpreter1, thanks for watching my repair video. As for your xa's problem, my educated guess is a fuel delivery issue since you can start the car everytime. While you are driving putting a load on the engine, the engine needs constant fuel pressure. Make sure you do have the correct fuel pump for your XA along with a new pressure regulator to stabilize that fuel for your engine. I don't know your year or mileage of your XA. My Xb is the last year 06 made, which means it's wise to own a vehicle after they updated any issues from the start of the 04 production line. My xb now has 210000 with original injectors and ignition coils. I intend to replace them this summer Lord willing so that I don't get stranded out there. My Xb always had a clean K&N air filter as well. Check your air filter as well. Good luck with your Xa, and I hope she'll run like new again!

Hi Matrix Adjustment 4.0, sounds like to me you might have snapped the locking tab that secures the fuel level sending unit. At minute marker 15:44 there is that locking tab. @Deville429
@Deville429 3 жыл бұрын
It could be a number of factors. Restrictive air filter, partially clogged injectors, fuel pressure regulator. The motor is a giant air pump. As long as the valve(throttle body) is partially closed, the idle circuit is active (running), which means there's no load (demand) from the motor. If you are up there in mileage, my gut feeling opinion based on your driving habits, heavy carbon buildup if you just normally drive your car with no wide open throttle actions. If you do drive with occasional wide open throttle that makes your engine scream to blow out the old, stuck carbon, then replace air filter, along with fuel pump and pressure regulator. I haven't replaced my ignition wires, coils yet. They are still original. Just replaced plugs once back at 90k. Plugs running good now with over 100k! Remember your engine depends on a clean air filter along with clean motor oil for your fuel injectors to work optimally. Just curious, is your toaster an 04? The saying goes never buy first year model of a car. I've waited two years later so that Toyota,Scion work out the kinks. I hope this advice tips work out 4 you. Good Luck!👍

In the morning it starts on the second try. Once it starts if I turn it off and back on it fires up immediately. If it sits for a few hours I get the same issue, it starts on the second try. Any ideas on what it could be?
@Deville429
@Deville429 2 жыл бұрын
Hola 1aninterpreter1, I'm glad your Xa is running great. My educated diagnostic opinion is your xa's not maintaining fuel pressure in that whole fuel circuit (pipeline). Based what you tell me that the car starts fine and all. Make sure your electrical(battery) is healthy with full amperage crank. Other than that I would drive your car around till its low in fuel, then double check your fuel pressure regulator install, making sure it's fully seated inside that O ring for a good seal, along with your fuel pump that also have a good tight O ring seal. My best of luck to you and hope your get your little Xa running great. Let me know how it works out. Then I'll check my service manual if there is a residual fuel pressure check specification. Again good luck God bless.
@Deville429
@Deville429 2 жыл бұрын
I've checked out my service manual. I included the injector test link under description. It looks like your car may benefit a new set of injectors. I just replaced mine, relatively easy. Discharge fuel pressure. You'll need a fuel line disconnect tool. ( Lisle 39210 Main Fuel Line Disconnect) Find your best price on the internet. Once you replaced your injectors, my advice is to stay with one brand gasoline(Shell, Sunoco). Do not mix your car's diet. Certain gas brands don't have the added detergents causing accumulated carbon deposits. Here is the web link for more info. newsroom.aaa.com/2016/07/aaa-not-gasoline-created-equal/ I personally use Shell. I replaced my injectors and they still look just like the new ones I installed. The key is to make sure you have a clean air filter at all times along with clean engine oil. Here is another link to high quality gas. www.toptiergas.com/ Good Luck!

Hi Jake, yes I am still driving my toaster box going on 15 years!👍 1st original owner purchased brand new. Still has all original ignition system except for spark plugs, original struts, original clutch (1st time driver stick shift). Just replaced my rear brakes, shocks, exhaust system. Now going to work on front brakes. Thanks for watching and God bless.

My gadge doesn't always work. Is this common? No issues but is this a sign I'll have issues soon?

Good day William! Yes, especially if you are up there on mileage. From what I gather from the service manual which I linked now at the end of the description text, hopefully it's the fuel sending unit assembly. Always start the cheapest route first to fix the problem. The order of troubleshoot should be sending unit, wiring (which should be in good shape) and last the whole combination meter assembly. You'll need a standard multimeter for your checks. Good luck in your repair! Thanks for watching my video repair and God bless! Here is the fuel sending assembly unit from rockauto. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4717806&cc=1432818&pt=4436&jsn=326
