2006 Town and Country thermostat replacement

Replacing the thermostat. This one was broken.
SYMPTOMS:
- No Hot Air when the heater was turned on after a longer then usual time.
- Temperature gage needle would not go pass the 1/4 line.

Thank you for this video. I dont really know a lot about working on vehicles, working on houses is my trade. Any how cause of your video you saved me over $100 paying someone else to do this and I was able to fix it myself. Now my van isn't over heating and I got it fixed for less then $20!

I think mine has a bad one I stopped at a light and it got pretty hot then I turned the heater on and it cooled down pretty quick but my heater wasn’t blowing hot air then it got warm again after a second idk

It could have gotten stuck... coolant won't circulate properly.

Mine keeps getting hot, like into the red hot. Then I stop and turn it off and it'll stay in the middle usually. Just got a new thermostat to put into it so I'm hoping this is the problem. I'll let ya know the results lol

The engine trying to overheat? If the thermostat gets stuck closed and the coolant doesn't circulate, the engine might overheat.

It's a missed fire. Could just be a spark plugs , or can be a bad coil. Coil is cheap on eBay... Have it scanned at a auto parts place for free.

Is it okay if the thermostat is no secure completely by the pincers? Anyone....I have a 2006 3.3 T&C, and can't manage it to sit flat all the way. I got one side, the other is a little off, not completely flush. I guess the gasket, and bolts will hold it together? It seems to be doing fine. I just fear with time, it might mess up or something. Thanks for the video though. Helped me install it! 😃👍

Probably not much choice here....now I'm wondering why I speed up the video when I was placing the thermostat....but my guess is as good as yours. I would probably leave it like that too....!

What was the torque value for the housing bolts? That’s very important information you left out

Yes it is. Did I mention that I'm not a professional mechanic? I didn't measure the torque. I honestly don't even recall if there was anything about it in the packaging, but my believe, it should be about 10 lbs., but don't quote me on that.

It should be right behind the thermostat housing.... like on the other side of the thermostat housing...under the coil pack... hope this helps! Thank you.

@@SALGUCO 100% possible, don’t care what anybody says , I have a 2002 town and country, I drove around for 2 days after putting it in and coolant just kept coming out of different places because of the pressure build up and then I decided to look up exactly which way it goes in and here we are, haha and now I stripped the threads so I can’t put it back in.

devilemre, I got mine from Advance Auto Parts, one of the Illinois USA locations. Since your engine seems to be a bit smaller the thermostat might be different, and if you are located in Europe you might have a diesel engine. ..then it will be different, based on the online images when searching for info on your vehicle. Sorry I can't help you better. Best of luck!

This is what happens when you use cheap parts or neglect your vehicle. This is such an easy job that I replace it every 50k miles, some replace it earlier, some later but use QUALITY parts, not unbranded eBay junk.

As far as I know, that was the original one. I hadn't replaced it before. You are doing preventive maintenance because, I assume, you know better than most of us. And yes, doing it your way would have prevented the issue. Something to consider here. Thank you!

@@SALGUCO Oh and I could tell you were using quality part from the gasket which I assume is Fel-pro, as 90% of the gaskets they make is blue. I am getting the same gasket as well, have used Fel-pro gaskets on my other cars from oil pan, valve cover, transmission pan. Never leaked.

The heater wouldn't throw hot enough air after the car was running for a good period of time. Also, the temperature gage wouldn't go pass one quarter when it should be at about half way, almost in or around the middle, depending on your coolant mixture.

My van just overheats. I replaced the radiator, fans, Fan Relays, so far I think this is the last thing to replace with it?

@@TheReverseVader Start with the thermostat, possibly a new radiator cap, probably the last thing would be the water pump.

abdulsamad memon , might be the transmission about to give up....I'm not saying that it is but it might. Hope someone else has better info about your issue.
