I own a 2009 Prius and am always searching for how to take care of my car. I always enjoy your video's and the way you demonstrate the repairs. Thank you

Sir, I thank you very much for this informative video. Initially, I thought it would provide a straight path to clearing the p2601 code by replacing the electric cooling tank pump. Was quite surprised when you mentioned the mechanical pump. I too, noticed a dime-sized amount of condensate or crystallized coolant in the exact place mentioned. I replaced my mechanical pump about a year ago. At that point, I decided to check the coolant level in the radiator. As suspected, it was in need of half a pint of coolant. On a hunch, I simply topped it up with fresh coolant and erased the code. No problems at all since simply adding half a cup of fresh coolant! Hope this helps someone! I was happy I didn't have to replace the electric pump!

I noticed the headlights are very clear, are they new/replacements? Or do you use a process to polish/clear them up? Thanks! Great video.
@TheHybridGuy Жыл бұрын
These ones are new yes, however I will make a video showing how to refinish old yellowed lights for everyone. I have a great process that I use.

Outstanding video, my sisters 2009 was throwing a P2601 code, the scanner said "inverter cooling pump" I checked her inverter pump and the reservoir had turbulence, after watching this it could be mechanical water pump?
@TheHybridGuy3 жыл бұрын
Or can also be the water pump on the coolant storage tank. Check for leaking at the mechanical water pump and if it’s leaking replace it first

What about coolant heat storage tank? Didn't see you manually run pump to purge tank? Not necessary with Airlift? Thanks!
@TheHybridGuy3 жыл бұрын
This was for the mechanical pump. On the heat storage tank you do a different process.

Pete, Great vids for a prospective owner! I'm looking for a cheap prius to use around the city. Would you choose a gen 2 over a gen 3 for a diy guy to fix up? They seem to be easier to work on and the MPG is not that much worse. Thanks for any thoughts! Another Pete

Great video Pete. I own a gen 4 but like to see previous gens. Would u recommend changn thermostat too? Do they go bad often? When u have some free time, could u please explain HOW I can get/install a coolant temp guage? I'm old school & normally install a temp sensor & wire it. I heard less invasive way using OBDII? Ive seen on phones but are their guages that pic it up I want to constantly monitor? Im sorry, I am NOT tech inclined, & u are. I really want to monitor coolant temp to avoid gett hotter than necessary. Thanks!

Hi Rice Burner! Thank you for the comments. I certainly have a temp sensor on my list of things to do! I want to get one wired in so I can see my actual temp. I will get that in the queue.

Always replace both. Mechanical and inverter pumps.
@TheHybridGuy3 жыл бұрын
It is always good to replace both for sure! This one was SO bad we had to do it no question.

It’s a good idea. I have a 2002, so just wanted to point this out.
@markclarke89382 жыл бұрын
you don't need a pressure bleeder
@coont-tracker-692 жыл бұрын
No but it’s a neat clean way to do it. That coolant just sprinted out of that container
