I had a clogged up radiator from not cleaning it out good enough from wheelin. After being out on trails, i was running hot. Thought it was my fan so I replaced it and cleaned out the radiator. Well it was staying cool but still steaming. Come to find out my radiator was leaking so i replaced it. Got it all back together and drove it a bit. No leaks but running hot again. The new fan is not kicking on. Checked the fuse, switched around all the relays like you did, and nothing. The fan does briefly kick on when i turn on the A/C then cuts off and repeats this process. I am hoping replacing this relay takes care of the fan issue.

So I would look between your radiator and the condenser to make sure there isn’t any leaves or mud stuck between there. And if not go to the local car wash and pressure wash the condenser and radiator out to get it clean. It sounds like you are having an airflow problem.

@DisgustedGenXr

It’s funny how you said “they don’t tell you“ all fans have relays so if you don’t know that maybe it’s you not them. Or you could’ve simply hooked your fan to 12 V to see if it worked that would’ve save you probably to 300 bucks on a moped or Mopar fan and your temperature sensor wasn’t working you wouldn’t have a temperature reading on your dashboard so that’s pretty easy to diagnose that that’s not the problem and if you’re going to just throw parts at something that’s not working start with the cheap parts first like a relay if you look up any wiring schematic it will show you the relay but like I said everything that garage any kind of power on a vehicle has a relay know things wired directly to any switch switch always control, relay, relay powers whatever you’re using your palm fan whatever
@wjkris0410
@wjkris0410 7 ай бұрын
First off thanks for taking the time to waste your time and tell me I did everything wrong 👍 The fan I did hook up straight to power. It didn’t work. Then the fan I got new still didn’t work hooked up correctly. So I cut the wires to hot wire the new fan to make the trip home and through the week till I traced down the problem. 99% of the relays to the vehicle are in the control box on newer vehicles it even stated in the wire diagram from mopar that it is controlled by the box. Then as I went through all the relays in the book from mopar I found no wire diagram but only a picture of the relay that controls the fan between the control fuse box and the fan resistor. So as for the temp sensor it was the cheapest thing to replace but didn’t fix it. So they don’t tell you where the relay is located in the mopar book either. Thanks I hope you learned something from the video and if not next time hit the next button. Have a nice day!

Kris, thank you for your video. Unfortunately, I had to learn all that the hard way out on the trail without the benefit of seeing your video first. I have a 2009 JKU. My problem was that the high speed wouldn't come on when I was doing a slow uphill crawl in hot weather, and I would overheat badly--240 degrees plus. I was able to find a Novato RL44 relay at an O'Reily's in a town that was close by. It had a 30 amp rating. That got me home, and when I got back, I got the OEM part from a local jeep dealer, and it has blown again. (Do you know what the amp rating is on the OEM part? I googled the part number you gave us, and it doesn't say.) Any idea why this particular relay tends to fail so much? I've never had to replace a single other relay in this 11 year old vehicle. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that Jeep didn't seal the radiator fan motor and dust, water or mud gets in the windings? Any thoughts?
@wjkris0410
@wjkris0410 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response but I have noticed that the fans are not sealed very well and they seam to not like the water much. My wife’s first fan incident was the oem fan got wet then later on the relay went out. I wonder if the after market fan has a lot amp draw and that is while yours keep going out. Might see if you can find a really good Bosch relay that is similar. Heat is not that good for them either.

I have a 2011. The fan works when I run the AC in defrost, but does not run at regular heat. So in essence, it works with the AC compressor but not with the regular heater. Do you think this would fix that as well? It’s about the only thing I haven’t tried yet.
@heavenleigh111
@heavenleigh111 Жыл бұрын
It's not supposed to run when you have just the heater on unless the engine is getting hot. The A/C come on with your defroster to help dry the air so it will unfog your windshield better and it also keeps the A/C compressor from seizing up if it goes all winter without being used and the fan runs because the A/C is on and it needs to pull air through the condenser all of time for the A/C to work properly

That is strange the top hose has the thermostat in it. Your radiator could be air lock. Which means that it has a big air pocket in the radiator and will not flow fluid. Run a water hose thru the radiator. With hoses off.

Interesting that the 2.8ltr diesel has 2 fans a belt driven fan and an electric fan. I guess we have more to cool.

if you wired the fan up directly and it worked, why would you replace the fan?

Because I stripped wires out of the connector to hot wire it.

It’s a pipe thread so as long as water isn’t coming out of the threaded area you should be good.

Did you have power by the fan before you bought the relay
@wjkris0410
@wjkris0410 3 жыл бұрын
No I didn’t The reason I bought the new fan was because I cut the wires to where it would come on when the Ignition was on.

I have the same problem on my 2008 jeep liberty. Do you know if we have this relay as well? if yes, where would it be? Thanks
@wjkris0410
@wjkris0410 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response but I have not seen the wiring for a liberty but I will say that they most likely will have another relay in the wiring harness and you will just have to get in there and follow the wires the best you can.

I have a 2011. The fan works when I run the AC in defrost, but does not run at regular heat. So in essence, it works with the AC compressor but not with the regular heater. Do you think this would fix that as well? It’s about the only thing I haven’t tried yet.
