If anyone was surprised to see extratropical storm Chantal on the estimated damages list it's because the heavy rainfall wiped out a LOT of coastal roads and highways on the Avalon peninsula in Newfoundland. It took some communities years to recover, some building temporary roads until they could repair or rebuild the main roads. Some roads never got rebuilt at all. I'll never forget leaving my grandmother's house and seeing rivers (multiple) of water coming down from the hills. It was surreal.

Hurricane Dean was a monster, luckily it didn’t hit the United States. But it’s the second strongest storm worldwide in 2007, behind Cyclone George. Also 2017 became the first to have 2 Category 5 hurricanes since 2007.

Dean/Dorian Both were C5 tropical cyclones, with a pressure about 5 hPa apart. However, the wind is different. Dean had 175 winds compared to Dorian's 185 winds.
