Severely destructive 2007 Ballito, KZN, coastal marine storm left Thompson’s Bay tidal pool, promenade and other infrastructure on the shoreline in a badly damaged state. The beach has since been restored to some former glory and it is a good time to look at visuals from just before the storm in February 2007, some just after the storm from March 2007 and then what it looked like in 2013 and 2017. Our journey here is to show you what the situation was at that time and what it is now in 2017. We start briefly at the famous Chakas Rock to take a broadview over Thompson’s Bay and then we visit Thompsons Bay and the tidal pool. We used a lot of clips from that time and it is very informative and this video allows us to put that event firmly in history. The details of what occurred were originally discussed in the first part of this video series and it would make sense to have a look at it. Why did we have this massive backline erosion of the beach and could it have been prevented?
I take you on tour with me and I have decided to spend adequate time at every location, so that all can be devoted to history. Therefore, I have made this as a 5 part VLOG series of which this is the first one. This is part 4 and it is about Thompsons Bay of course.
Me and my family walked on all the Ballito beaches during that time and I took a lot of photos. Many of these include them in these videos. Combined with narratives, they should help to pin this event to history.
