Ford Explorer. Perhaps no vehicle is more responsible for the SUV boom in America than the Ford Explorer. In its latest iteration the Explorer offers exactly what one might expect from a traditional SUV, including a powerful V8, seven-passenger seating, a rugged body-on-frame design, four-wheel drive and a maximum tow rating over 7000 pounds. The recent trend toward more fuel-efficient cross-over SUVs has reduced the Explorers prominence but for those who need the capabilities of a classic SUV, the Explorer still hits the mark.

Ford! I am from a Ford family! My dad has a 1994 E-350, 1998 F-250, and a 1999 Windstar. He plans on trading the Windstar for an Expedition. My mom has a 2003 Taurus and is getting an Edge. I get the Taurus! My dad's E-350 has 430,000 miles and is still strong! My mom's Escort had 390,000 before she traded it in for the Taurus! Fords last forever!

I own a 2006 Explorer Limited with 4 wheel drive and has the 4.6 3 valve motor that gets over 20 MPG at speeds 65-70.

my parents are getting one in a couple of days, im a chevy guy but this seems alright, we had a 2000 explorer, and i liked it. even though i want a tahoe, cant wait to see how the 07 turns out,

I love that it has navigation package. They play DVDs. ❤ So you can sit in it with a snack and watch one of your favorite tv show episodes. In surround sound. 😎👍👍

it is a shame the new explorer took everything good from the old one and ruinied it. No frame, front wheel drive, car styling. Ford, you blew it.

@AdrianC12345 What if you ever forget it? The keyless pad works well. The 1995 Explorer had one and when my uncle left the damn keys in my dad's car, my dad was able to open it with the keypad.

It's a handsome rugged SUV. Get one with V8. That slam a supercharger on it and you have 409hp.

you probably don't have the limited and eddie bauer trims either then.the main difference between the awd and 4x4 on the explorers and mountaineers,is that the awd system is meant for on road performance,and the 4x4 for off road,both have low range,and can operate in 4 wheel drive on road.but the awd dosen't have a center diff lock!

@296jayce It is sad. It would be a real shame to see the Suburban and Tahoe turned into crossovers. Right now they are still beefy body-on-frame SUVs with solid rear axles, the way it should be. Oh well...

Chevy's Tahoe and Suburban models are still body-on-frame SUVs; they just have the Equinox crossover.

I like this 2006-2010 model better than 2011 because the latter looks like a sissy mobile crossover, no longer a utility vehicle.

@SilentDrifter03 cheaper to maintain, doesn't always mean that it's better. Thing I don't understand is, if you like Mazda and other Japanese makers, why even argue here on a Ford clip? Obviously, people here do not agree with you. And there is nothing wrong with what's here. Any vehicle can break down if the owner doesn't take care of it.And fuel economy is the last thing an suv owner is thinking about when owning an Explorer.

Well..., since it's a 2002 model..., it could be a lemon that, you've bought. Most cars be involved in terrible wrecks...and, the dealer whom, buys it, just patch it up, here and, there(to make it look nice and, neat)and, put it up for sale! Other than that..., you probaly had it in the wrong gear. Two of my sisters had their 2003 Ford Explorers for, almost 3yrs....and, never had any major problems with them!

good morning friend I have a 2010 ford explorer that has 26093 miles and recently empoezo give jerk every time asia automatic change from 3rd to 4th speed, leading to the ford agent and was told that was the unit Mecatronic, I preferred put a new box continued failure now I would say it is the unit cfm. which changed and perciste cambairon failure after the advance sensor, then told me that the fault was the new audio player that will alos install disconnected and is still today Aabo failure.

I've done burnouts, drifts, and much more with my dad's Explorer. If you drove it like a race car and have only 60k miles, then it's equivalent to all those miles you have. You shouldn't be hating on Ford if you don't expect someone to fight you back. =) My Ford Mustang will burn all those cars by the way.

but thats a car,not a full si.ze suv,big hybrid suvs are pointless,because it compromises the towing capacity,ie the chevy tahoe hybrid that can only tow 6,000 pounds,while the normal one tows about 7,700 pounds

=P Nah, my Ford Explorer does not have problems. I dare you to smash your shitty ass Japanese cars into my Explorer. My Explorer is a 1995 and it only has 60k miles. Practically brand new. No modifications so far but I'm going to put a supercharger on it.
