Thanks for the video! Only took me a few minutes to do the entire install, a sawzall with a metal blade cut the bolt in about 10 seconds and I was in business! In my case, the driver side bushings were shot but the pass looked ok, I swapped them all anyway but I think the leaking power steering pump was the culprit for mine disintegrating.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I worked on my 2007 GL450 today. My car had clunking noise when going over bumps and clicks when steering left and right. All those noise is gone now. I spent good 5 hours to do this work since I am not that good in repairing and don't have tools. I cut the bolt using manual steel saw, spending about 30 minutes. I didn't know why there are 4 bushings for the two mounts. 2 bushings for each mount! The 4 bushings costed me about $37 at Oreilly's (part #: 1644600029). MBZ dealer quote is almost $200. So, I used the cheap one. For the 90 mm bolt, I bought from Home Depot. When I showed my car to local mechanic, he quoted $1300 for replacing the rack and pinion. I think the mechanic try the easiest way to repair, not the cheapest way, simply replacing the rubber bushings. I wondered the clunking noise coming from underneath for several years, without any clue. I searched many websites and couldn't figure it out. Finally, I fixed both steering noise and clunking noise by replacing the steering rack bushings. Again, Thank you for your post. I hope many people watch this video and get the benefit.

Sorry if you take the 3 bolts out of the front axle and let drop some can only come down til bottoms out did mine on jack stands, pull out the front bad bushing first then the rear one and bolt will come right out same with install have to work around axle shaft a little. I put in rear bushing with bolt only then put in front bushing no need to buy any bolt use a little vaseline on bushing it can be done and put back exactly the way it was made originally I did it. It was a little tough but did not buy any bolts nuts used all original bolts nuts my last one I did this and purchased bolt and nut but 2nd job it was not needed believe me it can be done rear bushing in first with bolt then push in front bushing.

Thanks for the info! There wasn't enough play to remove the old bushings. Did you remove toe rods or anything else? BTW 90mm bolt is a few mm too long and gets dangerously close to front diff (solved by using a few washers to create a gap). And I hope you all use 10.9 grade bolts!

Did you unscrew two screws at once and replaced the bushings or did you replace them one by one?

Hi John, I went to do this job on my 2010 ML550 yesterday but I had only bought one bolt at ace hardware, are we supposed to cut both bolts off so need 2 bolts? It looked as if the passenger side I could get the old bolt out without cutting and replace those 2 bushings but drivers side not enough room, so thinking you are cutting just that side off and not the passenger, or both? Would really appreciate if you could let me know, thanks!!

Thank you so just the drivers side correct, the passenger side has enough room to take bolt out and remove old bushings and slip in new bushings correct?@@wetsoup

Suddenly all the 90mm bolts are gone! Can i use 80mm or 100mm? Please advise 🙏.
@wetsoup
@wetsoup Жыл бұрын
Try an 80mm grade 10.9 as the 90mm gives only a little clearance an 80mm may work better, if to short use the 100mm and add in a washer

Great! Having a hard time finding a regular bolt would a flange bolt work? Anyone have the OE Mercedes part # to install the same bolt in the other direction?
@wetsoup
@wetsoup 2 жыл бұрын
You can use any bolt grade 10 or higher. If you go to benz parts counter they can look it up for you. Unfortunately the online parts look up avaliable to mortals doesn't go into such depth.

@@njoeandjen Great note! Thank you! This works. I just removed the 3 diff bolts and gently raised the diff with a jack and a block of wood. The bolt, small bracket and rear bushing popped out together.
