Superstar Lava Man is now retired from his second career as a lead pony, and is based at Old Friends in Georgetown, Kentucky. I'm sure he'd love visits from his fans!

For all Lava Man fans who are wondering what he's up to today, the awesome track announcer heard here, Vic Stauffer, kindly answered an email I sent him at his website saying that Lava Man is still a cool horse, and that he's still working as a pony at Doug O'Neill's stable at age 19. How awesome that Lava Man is living a good life after all the thrills and chills he gave us!

Just saw Lava Man in the 2021 Breeder's Cup Classic post parade working as Hot Rod Charlie's escort pony, and he still looks great at 20 years old!

For those who don’t know, Lava Man will be retiring from his ponying duties following tomorrow’s Breeder’s Cup Classic, where he’ll escort Hot Rod Charlie to the starting gate one last time. He will be sent to live at Old Friends in Kentucky to live out his days.

@@jaredadler9746 That's nice to hear, too, thanks. I love Lava Man and hope to see him in person someday. Have you seen his "eating routine" video on KZbin? If not, check it out. Great entertainment from a great horse! There's also a video of him doing his first pony stint for I'll Have Another at Santa Anita in 2012 which is cute. He looks a little impatient thinking he should be out on the track running, not in the tunnel waiting!

Not the original rags to riches. That be either John Henry or Seabiscuit. They both became the all time money winners. Lava Man was not even close d to get that record in his era. However he’s the only horse in world history to win a Grade 1 on Turf/Dirt/Synthetic 😍😍😍
