Awesome video. I've been trying to install win 10 on my 2007 white MacBook for the past year since I dug it out of storage. Unfortunately MacOSX kept crashing when I tried to create a partition for windows so I decided to try and get rid of Mac OS and just run Windows on it (I was on Lion which is the latest MAC OS that is supported on my machine and, frankly, its useless now anyway). Instead of creating a partition in Mac OS I just used an SSD as an external drive and formatted it in Mac OS to MBR (I don't know whether this was necessary really but I did it anyway just in case). Then I stuck it in a PC and followed this video from that point. Works. Perfectly. Absolutely awesome and this old MacBook is finally more than an unwanted antique

May I ask how did you format your disk, I have a disk with no os and try to format to msd from a mac, then when inserted on a windows computer to install windows 10 , appears a double partition, the EFI Partition and the unallocated partition, but it does not allow me to install windows here, so I need to format again in order to do so, I leave the efi partition out and format the unallocated part, installed windows, take it out before the first restart but no success so far. I am missing something, I am doing a wrong format?

I just went into this nightmare and it surprised me a lot how hard it was to get w10 working properly on this machine. At this point I just wanted to see if it was capable, and although the performance is far from ideal, I'd say it's pretty usable, with some hardware upgrades I'm sure it will improve. I took a little shorter (and less painful) path to install w10 after trying and failing a lot to install it directly from a stick. First I got a w7 iso (from the Internet Archive) and installed it with Boot Camp as every normal person would do (with a small tweak into Boot Camp's info.plist to allow it to install w7 from a USB flash drive), including drivers, once I got it all working, I installed every update I could (not a lot), activated the OS, and, from a w10 iso, I updated the OS. It took around an hour and a half but once it was done it worked beautifully, the Boot Camp software and drivers were still there. It runs hella hot tho 😂

It would be much appreciated if you could tell me the code for the tweak, or a source so i can adjust it accordingly. A family friend gifted me a 2007-8 iMac and I'm desperately trying to make it not be a paperweight lol.

You can achieve the same thing by creating a USB stick with Windows setup on it, creating an image of it with Winclone, and cloning the image onto a spare disk partition. You need to boot off that and then start the setup in the regular fashion. Just let it copy the files onto the same partition. Tested on an iMac (Mid 2011) with a dead optical drive and no support for legacy USB boot.

Just reset windows through restore. Get bootcamp 4.0.4033. Navigate with file explorer to bootcamp4.0.4033\drivers\apple. Right click bootcamp64 > compatibility > previews version of windows. If not, it will say it requires windows 7. CMD in admin mode to bootcamp4.0.4033\drivers\apple. Type bootcamp64.msi and install it normally. Restart. After this i have everything working, including trackpad and keyboard with full functionality (tap to click, 2 fingers scroll, illumination, function keys etc.). I'm pretty sure the USB 2.0 standard didn't require support for being able to boot from USB, and installing an OS in that way wasn't really the norm yet back then. The manufacturers making the USB 2.0 controller chips on the board probably didn't include that functionality as it wasn't within the spec. Or maybe it was an issue of the particular EFI BIOS itself not allowing you to boot from USB. Either way, this is cool and I'm glad it worked.

Great Video. Someone gave me a late 2007 Macbook and I want to convert to Windows. Few questions: 1. Can i partition using Boot camp utility (I was able to do this, but of course didn't work with the windows 10 install through bootcamp but it did create the partition).--or do I need to partition using disk utilities. 2. If I only want to keep the most minimum partition for Mac OS and the rest for Windows, what is the minimum GB partition for Mac OS? 3. Or do you just recommend to get rid of the Mac OS completely and just install the Windows only (negating the need for any partition) 4. I have a Windows 10 (64 Bit) installer on a USB stick I used to install on a Macbook Air 2012 and Mac Mini (late 2012) and the install was simple . Can I use the same installer USB or do I have to do something different? (I'm not familiar with UEFI etc). 5. The windows 10 installer i have is Windows 10 Pro (64 Bit). you think that'll be ok with 4GB RAM or do I need to install the 32 bit (Which I don't have and not sure if my Win 10 PRO 64 bit code will work). 6. Lastly, I have a Macbook Pro 2006 (Intel Core Duo -32 bit). Do you think this same process will work, or will it not work on that model? Thank you
@MacintoshMen3 жыл бұрын
I suppose Bootcamp could create the partition but I would just do it in Disk Utility. The minimum size is basically what disk utility would allow you to resize it to then. About the USB question, those Macs (2012) have a completely different UEFI, therefore it booted. That process doesn't work on those older Macs (2006, 2007). That's why I created this video. On 2006 it's the same procedure as long as you use a 32 bit installer.
@stephanlee42223 жыл бұрын
@@MacintoshMen Thanks. I've never done a 32 bit install of Windows 10 but it's worth a try. Do you think 1 or 2 GB is enough for that or do you still recommend 4GB? I will let you know how it works. I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my MacBook 2,1 from a x86/x64 DVD with rEFInd and then upgraded to win 10 21H2. Possibly runs in a legacy BIOS emulation mode, as far as I know they would need to have this for Windows XP compatibility. Also the trackpad drivers don't work on my mid 2007 macbook.

did you get your sound to work? i have this one too and I couldnt get it to work until I installed the 4.3.4033 version of boot camp drivers, which apple doesn't provide in their website
@Txm_Dxr_Bxss2 жыл бұрын
@@ThePeter567 Yes, I stole the drivers and bootcamp software from a few different versions, with 4 being one of them. Sound is extra tricky the 2,1 doesn't use Realtek audio, but IDT SigmaTel, so it never get's picked up correctly by Windows. It's really not fun. Also Speedstep didn't work correctly on my unit, so the computer slowed to 1GHz and would never go back up when cooled down. Changing thermal paste and cleaning the cooler didn't help. Recently I got an early 2009 A1181 with nvidia graphics for cheap, just because I wanted to see Win10 (maybe 11) and macOS 12 running on one of these white MacBooks.

For example, if a person was to install Windows 10 to a hard drive externally through the means of using a USB to sata adapter, from a system already running it's own windows (or any other OS).

I installed from CD win7 x64, biggest issues were apple drivers. I tried a few free driver progs with no success. Ended up downloading from Apple the boot camp files, then I had to extract the driver folders to install them effectively. Took me 2 days of downloading, trying, reaearching, you will have to delete apple partitions, I did not use refit or bootcamp, just win7 cd. Next upgrade is 4gb ram and ssd, mine is 2006 macbook pro, all works except remote, even with 3rd party software.

How did you create your DVD? For some unknown reason no Windows media will ever boot in this Mac Mini 2006 upgraded to 2,1 and C2D 2.16GHz x64, when using an external USB DVD drive - tried XP, Vista, 7, 10, all 32-bit and 64-bit - not even BootCamp works when I want to boot from the optical disc!!
@DJZofPCB Жыл бұрын
@@DrAcOFoto I know the feeling. I don't remember off the top, but you have to press C or another key combo at startup for it to prompt you to boot dvd or hd, if you do get that screen but don't see the dvd, keep trying, that's what I did. I used RUFUS to make the dvd, no options just the default settings. I got super frustrated, don't give up, use GOOD keyword searches to find your answer. I spent like 2 weeks trying to get it to work. Try different optical also
@DrAcOFoto Жыл бұрын
@@DJZofPCB sadly, the problem is more complicated than the boot keys, which always worked. It's just the media, it is never recognized, i've wasted countless DVDs and more hours making USB boot drives. Nothing for installing Windows is recognized, with default Apple boot loader, refit, refind, doesn't matter. Keep in mind Rufus can default to different things, that's why I could use some known precise working settings. Thanks for replying, though. I'll continue with this frustrating search for something that works for the 2006-2007 Mini, which would probably help other macs with the dirty 32-bit EFI.

@shadowpresident42034 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking of doing this with my old MacBook from late 2007, but I'll need to upgrade from 1 GB RAM. I can get 2x2 GB modules for about $20 total, or I can get 1x4 GB + 1x2 GB for about $80. The price disparity is huge, because apparently the 4 GB low power DDR2 modules are rare nowadays, and accordingly overpriced. I'm thinking 6 GB instead of 4 on this machine actually WOULD make a performance difference, since it's already somewhat underpowered for this OS anyway. But I just can't justify paying over $50 for a 4 GB module. The machine only officially supports 4 GB according to Apple, but apparently this oddball 6 GB config works too. If it doesn't run well with 4 GB, I'll just install Linux on the machine instead.
