I drove a 2006 Corolla S for 5 1/2 years. It was a pretty nice car & didn't have a single problem. It was also the first car I bought with my own money. Sold it cause it got too small for me (I'm over 6 ft). Much better than the 10th gen & also better looking than the current 11th gen. My current 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6 is much nicer, but my Corolla had most of the options & I got a great deal on it too! Sometimes I miss that car!

This is a sporty version of an economy car, and yet the reviewer is complaining about the hardness of the plastic on the interior? WTF did he expect? Just last week, I bought this exact same model car except with a 5-speed manual, and I have to say it drives awesome. It has great acceleration and takes curves almost as if they aren't even there, meanwhile my gas gauge hasn't even come off of the F mark yet. I have back problems from an injury last year and have been stuck driving a much bigger car which has wide leather seats but runs on premium and handles like a station wagon. My back finally got a little better to where I could consider an inexpensive second car for short commuting and running around, and I stumbled across this Corolla for sale. I'm keeping the other car for longer trips and AWD situations, but I like the Corolla much better. Once I fiddled around with the seat enough to find the sweet spot, I'm pretty comfortable for routine distances. Now I'm actually having fun driving again and saving money on gas. Yet if this car had been made with an interior like an XLE, I could never have afforded it. It's one thing for a reviewer to critique a car, and another thing to just complain about personally not liking it. Sheesh.
@K-116092 жыл бұрын
Sadly that’s what most reviews I’ve seen of this car specifically have said and kept prefacing “It’s a Corolla!” Yea, that’s why we’re here! Most people aren’t looking for a sports car! I have an '03 Corolla. Build quality is good, it's decent on gas if you keep it under 2,500RPM. It gets pretty buzzy after 5,000RPM which imo adds drama to the sleepy 1.8 1ZZ-FE. Thankfully, it's DOHC so it loves to rev. I agree about the steering feel. It's responsive and nicely weighted but I don't like the ratio. I wish it had tighter steering. Highly recommend it with a 5-speed manual. The 4-speed slushbox isn't that fun, unless you turn off overdrive and/or keep it in 2. Fun fact for fellow 9th gen Corolla owners: this car will bounce off the redline while in park.

The XRS Corolla was the sporty Corolla. What they did was put a larger engine in a small car that weighs about 2500 lbs. People still have them today and the boy racers are still running them hard. They are hard to find and they are fast. When the 2003 Corolla came out TRD had a Twin Screw Supercharger for it that added about 50 hp. The XRS was still faster then a regular Supercharged Corolla. The Supercharger was about $3000.00 After the 9th gen the newer ones started to get heavier. All the modern electronic crap new cars come with just continues to add weight and the cars become slower.
@oldtwinsna83476 жыл бұрын
Never drove one but the videos posted online show the XRS to be a very peaky engine, even much more so than the Honda VTECs of the time. I'm not sure that would be any fun to drive on a daily basis, think I would have preferred the supercharger for the regular engine.
@Anthony_in_Bloomington_Indiana8 жыл бұрын
Dude, you are not supposed to rev the engine, especially the way you revved the engine! You can damage the engine by pressing down on the fuel pedal when the car is not moving, just like what you did. I remember a high school shop teacher telling his students to NEVER rev the engine.

Why can't Toyota not make RWD Corollas like the AE86 Corolla? Those cars were nice. If Toyota wants to be sportier and still reliable, they should make the corolla RWD with a 6-speed manual and at least 200 HP. Why do they have to be boring?
@richard165s7 жыл бұрын
Cause the current Corolla, however boring it may be, is a proven formula for success. Most people looking to buy something in the compact segment aren't looking for a manual transmission or good handling.
