2007 V.S. 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo In Depth Review and Comparisons

In this video I give a full in depth tour and comparison of 2 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredos, one a 2007 and one a 2003. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of these suvs while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicles themselves. I also show the engines and the details of them, start them up and see how they sound under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of these vehicles designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the Jeeps.

The inline 4.0 in the WJ is one of the toughest engines ever built. It's made of a cast iron block and cast iron head and is nearly indestructible. I've got that engine in my '96 ZJ. Blew a water pump three years ago and had to drive it overheated ten miles with the temperature gauge going through the roof. Replaced the pump and the radiator and now three years and 30k miles later still runs great. You can't kill that engine. Not a high performance engine but super reliable.

I had the 99 WJ limited with the I6 for 3-4 years and loved it. I've owned the 06 WK overland 5.7L for about 3 years now and I love it. Both are very reliable. For an everyday driver, WK feels more smoother with the IFS. You can lift it for off roading, but it's a bit more work than the WJ's solid axels. Both served me great as stock vehicles in different snow blizzards. For towing, the WK's Hemi definitely beats the WJ's I6. Although, the WJ did come with a 4.7 V8 but I have no experience with that engine. All in all, I'll keep my WK stock and I want to find another WJ to lift and use as my beater.

I've had a 2004, 2011, and now a 2002 grand cherokee . The 2011 the worst reliable car ever and the 2004 the best. The 2002 is an extra car I bought because I love 99 to 2004's.

Damn, my mom used to have a 2011 when it first came out and man that thing was unreliable, she literally changed almost everything mechanically and it still failed.

The sound of the 3.7 V6 in the 2007 is rather soothing but I think I'd take the 4.0 I-6. Not that the 3.7 is bad; It's just that the 4.0 is better :D

unless you live in florida or texas DONT BUY A 2WD JEEP CHEROKEE. my friends 99 jeep is a 4x4 but previous owner removed the front driveshaft because it was broken. went in a 10 feet of snow and got stuck( didnt know the 4x4 didnt work till then LOL) plus 2wd jeeps just arnt right

I have an 04 my Dad has on 08, basically same comparison the 08 has a more car like feel when driving and has alot of the new cooler features (xm radio/ipod/mp3 etc built in) and they both run great the straight 6 seems to get a little better gas mileage than the 3.7 but they both have plenty of power and can cruise at highway speeds easily. We live where the winters can get tough and they both handle it no problem. Jeeps are great!

I'd love to own an '03-'05 Grand Cherokee as my first car. Nice V8 engine and great for off-roading, plus they're more comfortable and roomy than other Jeeps imo

There's only 3 things between these 2 jeeps that should automatically give you an answer 1- 4.0L I6 > 3.7L V6 (the 4.0 I6, it's last appearance on grand cherokees was in 2004. It has a lot more torque and considered the most durable Engine to date, nicknamed "BulletProof". 2- 2003 Wj weighs 3700 pounds > 2007 Wk weighs 4500 pounds 3- 2003 Wj uses Live axels (very durable but rough), 2007 wk uses front independent suspension which isn't good for offroading, but has a smoother ride.

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland with the 4.7 H.O. V8 and a 2010 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 5.7 Hemi. Both trucks are awesome, but I like the 2004 the best. I believe it's a much more solid truck. I'm a Jeep fan..have had 5 Jeeps so far and all of them have been great. Jeeps rock!!!

I have the 03 with the I-6 engine. I have about 130k on it and yet to do any major type of mechanical work on it. Great Machine, well built for daily use, and can handle abuse like no other vehicle. The down side is the actual ride it self is tiring at times due its constant jumping around. ( shocks were changed) . It also burns gas quite a bit. Engine had an oil change every 2500, tranny and diff as well. I dont like the new jeeps because of the smaller engin. Doesnt seem as durable as older.

1995, 2001 and 2005 owner here. 95 has 5.2L V8 4x4(manual shift) Auto. Trans. and has the best pull strength of the 3. 01 has 4.0L I6 4x4(manual shift) Auto Trans. and has been a good one when needed to be. 05 has 4.7L V8 Quadramatic(AWD with 4x4Lo) and has the smoothest ride, like a luxury vehicle. I like all 3 very much, as they each serve their purpose in their own way. DISLIKES would be.... 95 loves to Death Wobble, even with new/better parts 95 and 01 Driver Seat is made too weak/flimsy. 01 has window malfunctions. 05 Front Seat Belts are about 12" too short, no room to lean forward to check both ways at intersections. Entrance/Exit space between B-Pillar and Steering Wheel is smaller on the 05 compared to 95 and 01. I have to SQUEEZE into the 05 to be greeted with a seat belt barely long enough to clasp. Like I said, I like all 3 very much. The 95 and 01 are for work, with the 95 pulling heaviest loads. My 05 is filled with Camping Gear, Off-Grid/Solar prepared. Thought about switching the Glamper over to one of my Durangos, more room/space for the equipment and still have 4x4.

I've always wondered why companies give up having separate lights for the back blinkers? Coupling it with the brake light seems like a cost cutting move? Wouldn't that make the brake bulbs wear out faster? It bugs me. LOL.

I tell ya, it sounds like a small deal, but those rear seat vents on the newer one must make a huge difference. I have an 04 which is the same body style as the 03 and it doesn't have 'em and it's hard sometimes for the a/c to keep up back there.

@focusonthegreen It's mainly because of our high fuel prices though. We have a lot of small European cars (continental Europe) but the engine sizes are smaller here. The average engine size is probably 1.6 - 1.8L.

I'd much rather have the 03. I just like it's looks more... it looks more like a jeep than the 07. WJ is my favorite Grand cherokee, i also like ZJ. The seats in the WJ look SO much more comfortable and well made compared to the seats in the 07. I want to buy a 99 because i want a 90's jeep and WJ is my favorite and it started in 99...

Nota Bene : I just forgot to point out that ALL Laredos (no matter if it is 1999; 2005 or 2011 version...) are the worst ones : no wood, no leather; you get it just as options if you want. To me, a nice Grand Cherokee is black outside; with an all beige/cream leather interior and wood panels here and there...What to ask more ??!

I have an 04' an and 06' grand cherokee and the WJ(04) is so much better in almost every single way. The WK(06) does get better mpg and has slightly better steering. The 06' has the most uncomfortable ride ever and the seats feel like they're made of stone. The quality of materials on the 06' is terrible. the whole dash and doors are this horrible hard/cheap plastic unlike the soft padded material on the 04'. I'd take the WJ all day.

A little more info regarding mechanical specs would be appreciated. Horsepower, torque ratings, wheelbase, curb weight, cargo volume were never mentioned. These are things that any potential Jeep owner would like to know. Also, what are the characteristics of it's drive system? Next time how about looking in to that stuff too?

Honestly Speaking for the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Owners they are "fake luxury" But I LOVE my loaded leather 2005! It still feels newish at 97K. They Need Billsteins and swaybar bushings and ball joints by now. That stuff is like tires , but people don't view it that way. So many people just do oil changes and nothing else. I did the above refresh w/ new tires / brakes. And its comparable to an equally old X5.
