Good work mate. I've heard many horor stories about people replacing the timing chain on v6 Touaregs and then after a year or so they experience the same problems again. It looks like it is a MUST, when you're replacing the timing chain on the cars with VVT sprockets/adjusters, to get them replaced too. They are very expensive but that gives u piece of mind in the future. Without replacing the inlet/outlet VVT sprockets/adjusters, the timing chain will give u a headache again. You've done an amazing work here. Greetings

I can definitely see how it can turn into quite a mess. I only wish I had decided to go through the entire motor once I saw the sludge in the oil pan. That should have been the dead give away. So keep an eye out for an engine rebuild series as we plan on going through the entire motor with new bearings and seals. Thanks for watching & the comment!

Good job .. removal of that vehicle is a headache

It's a lot of work for a common issue on this engine. Thanks for watching!

So the exhaust phaser was bad? On Fords the pin locks the phaser until the PCM goes into closed loop. Is that how these work?
@mountainviewsgarage11 ай бұрын
Yes the exhaust phaser was bad. There was wear especially where the pin is supposed to lock. So much wear that it wasn’t able to lock.

Timing chains need to be replaced every 100,000 miles
@mountainviewsgarage10 ай бұрын
I would hope we would get more than 100,000 miles on a set of timing chains if proper maintenance is kept up and good quality oil is used. But, there are some serious design & quality issues with some of these manufacturers.

What was the mileage od the engine?

It had around 152,000 miles on it when we purchased it.

@@mountainviewsgarage i'm asking because i just bough Touareg 3.2 from germany 179000 km, previous owner claim that timing chains must be replaced, i hope that those vvt gears will be fine because these are expensive 🙂

So much work damn near may as well just rebuild the whole freaking motor. 🙄

You’re exactly right. That’s what we’ve decided to do is rebuild the motor. At this point there’s no turning back and at least it will be good to go for a long while. Thanks for watching and the comment!

@mountainviewsgarage i own one and I was curious what it would take to do this work. Wow. I can't say im at all impressed with the backwards design here. Everything on this vehicle is a pain in the arse. Lol!

@@yourselfdotcomlol Lol, I've found myself several times questioning on whether I enjoy working on the Touareg's.... But honestly, I like the challenge and every time I work on one, I learn something new for sure. The VR6 is definitely easier to drop the engine on versus the V10 TDI, there's double of everything to disconnect it seems and much tighter fit. As long as you budget for expected repairs, you can get a pretty good deal on a nice SUV. I've seen several of these 3.6VR6 models with the same trouble codes as ours show up in the adds for sale, and it's nice to know exactly what is entailed on something like that and an estimated cost of repairs.
