I have been riding for many years. I hate it when I hear people call this a beginner's bike. I have owned Honda Goldwings, Triumphs, Harleys and other bigger bikes. I bought this motorcycle because I love it light weight. I like this bike because they are beautiful, its weight alows me to ride twisty roads with ease. But it also can handle highway speeds well above speeds with stability and comfort then you say. I can be in 5th gear and with a twist of the throttle I hit 80 to 90 and the bike is stable and I am sure it can do more. It's a modern cruiser but reminds me of the 650 Triumphs back in the day and those bikes were fast. This bike is fast because of the light weight. In fact I own a Honda Goldwing 1100cc but because the bike is so heavy this bike is faster. I can be riding 55 or 60 mph and accelerate and it will hit high speeds but it takes longer to get there then this Yamaha 650 does. I see so many of these bikes on the road and talk to people and they are not beginners either. I think people calling the Yamaha 650 bike a beginners bike turns experienced riders like myself maybe off to the point they will miss out on this really cool comfortable ride. A Harley Sporty will beat you to death after a while. This bike will handle the speeds but with a lot more comfort. The suspension is very impressive and it's a well built nicely chromed out reliable motorcycle. It will make a great 2nd or 3rd bike just because it is a different fun riding experience. A bigginers bike only, not at all.!!!

Thanks a lot for your helpful and inspiring message about this bike. I have one and I'm new, and I'm loving it. Plan on upgrading one day but I'll probably hold on to this one.

If you are short like me (5'6) this bike is amazing. I bought a 2003 with 8,000 miles on it and everyone thinks it's a Harley because of its idle as I have mine jetted, upgraded, straight piped and sounds so choppy some Harleys wish they sounded like mine lol.

I just wrote my comment and I meant to add that I am also 5.8 and this bike may be a bit cramped for a tall person with long legs but for my height this bike is perfect. I also found tons of aftermarket stuff for this bike. I said this bike will do higher speeds with comfort and stability but personally I don't like driving a bike at high speeds. It's much more fun depending on the road 45 to 60 mph just because its safer but more fun to me. But on the highway I can and do ride 75 to 80 all day long.

Thank you so much , that's the look I wanted to go for, I wanted to build the bike like a Vicla but soon I'm going to buy a harley davidson Deluxe and do even better. I was kinda limited in how I was able to build my bike due to the small aftermarket for this bike :(

Got one as my first bike, I'm a little too tall for it I'm 6ft 5in. I've had it for a month and rebuilt the carb, taken apart the final drive to grease the splines (if you haven't done that look up a video on it and do it now, can save you thousands) swaped leavers, cluch cable. To cut it short I've tore into the bike a bit and I really like it.

Hey sure I bought these highway bars directly from Lindbycustom.com and it was the linbar highway bar. But make sure when you order it its for the Yamaha v star 650 the part number is 603-1. I accidently bought the wrong one and had to return it since it didn't fit right. But the highway bar look really nice though. If you are not so sure you can call them to see if they have the bars and to make sure its the right one.
