This 2009 Toyota Highlander has an engine oil cooler hose failure. come to find out its just the gasket. So we ended up just replacing the whole pipe from Dorman at the nearest Auto parts store. Just a little walk thru of how we took it apart and replace it with the newer parts.

Toyota Manufactory should have a recall all models with same parts for this replacement of oil cooler hose. No one should spend any penny on this job.

I just came across a major leak from this hose assembly. A pin hole in one of the rubber hoses. Original Toyota has the replacement kit. Dealer part #04004-29131. Kit has the lines and both gaskets. Retail cost is $77.55. My cost is $58.16. Dorman part #625-022 at my local aftermarket store is $99.64, my cost. Go with the O.E. Toyota in the future. Thanks

same happened to me, it was recommended to me to change the rubber to metal and u will never hav this problem again cuz the rubber gets brittle and breaks and thats where it leaks, i dont think it leaked from the gasket. the toyota part store should hav this updated metal line

After watching this video I called my dealer to get mine replaced under warranty, which is covered on this part until Dec 7 2020 or 150k . The catch is ,it has to be leaking to qualify for replacement, if it’s not leaking they won’t replace it .

Take an oil gun. Squirt oil on the pipe. Take it to the dealer.

You did good to use the metal pipes because the rubber ones break after 100 000 miles and Toyota changed to use metal hoses.

Is that all you had to move out of the way for easier access was the plastic diapers? Are there any other brackets or hoses to get out of the way to slip the part in easier or did you need to remove several mounting bolts (the reverse type that need torx sockets) to get it to set right without flexing metal line?

Please let me know how you got the nuts off the studs,..what tools did you use, one stud is super close to engine, not enough space for a nut..Thx

Have to say, brake cleaner usage there was not optimal. You sprayed an open electrical connector as well as sprayed into the holes that the oil line mates to- not a great idea! It dries in open air but will pool inside there. Even if most of it dissipated, residue and chemicals will mix with the oil and compromise the whole system. Just a user beware for the next guy- cover electrical connectors and open holes into the engine. Otherwise, good info here- just found this on my Highlander... only it was a stream of oil pissing all over the undercarriage and passenger rim etc... I defiantly plan to have Toyota fix it on their dime; no sense in wasting my money on a recalled part. Why didn't you have a dealership do it for free?

I'm guessing this replacement should be timed with an oil change? How much oil did you loose when you replaced that part? I just changed the oil in my wife's Highlander and found I have some kind of leak in the same location. I figure I'll just keep an eye on the oil level and have the parts ready to change. At the next oil change.

I had to use a 1/4 ratchet and a 12mm swivel socket since the aftermarket one has a tighter fit.

A lot of time wasting and spray cleaning. I came here to know how you got that rigid piece of metal into those four studs. The rubber adds some flexibility to the part. You can bend and wiggle it. Unlike the new design. There's a reason the original part was designed with rubber. Getting this thing on is a pain!

@@naranjoandres32 There are other videos that demonstrate this. In the cases I've seen, the passenger side studs are actually removed. The driver's side is put in loosely, then the passenger side studs are re-inserted THROUGH the bolt holes, then all the nuts are installed.

The reason for the revision of the cooler tube design was to ensure durability. The rubber flex line was not impervious to the heat thrown off from the exhaust, or catalytic convertor to be precise. The full metal composition is better suited for the location & shouldn't harden, unlike the rubber hoses. The new part isn't bad at all to install. I broke the tip off one of the studs - torx end of stud broke off because the nut didn't come off - I replaced the stud with another metric bolt & washer.

I hope no one uses that copper spray like this guy. Copper eats away aluminum, which the block and heads are made of.

BSK PRODUCTIONS A black oil resistant gasket maker is what you should have used. You contaminated the entire oil system and put the vehicle at risk for prematurely wearing out. Mainly because you sprayed the entire gasket. All that copper material near the 4 holes is going to strip right off and circulate through a full aluminum engine. Copper eats aluminum. Also you are more prone for the gaskets to leak in the future too. That new assembly connects to aluminum. So you would have been better off not using your cheap gasket spray. Use correct torque specifications and no gasket maker should be needed. Toyota/Denso came out with this updated metal design. Any Toyota dealership sales these parts. Here are the part numbers 15767-31020 11496-31010 15785-31010

Not too bad at all, if you have the correct tools. Why would you buy it from auto zone if the toyota dealer has the whole kit for less than az's price? Plus, from toyota it's an O.E. part, not aftermarket. See the part number above and call your local dealer and buy it.
