The first half is the best I have ever seen Kansas play under Bill Self. This was also Billy Packers last final four.

Still having a hard time forgiving Roy Williams for being distracted by the NC coach talk in the middle of the '02 Final Four run. We should have won that game vs. Syracuse!!!
@carsonc297 жыл бұрын
I was mad at Roy as well..especially since Dean Smith,native Kansan and KU grad spurned KU to stay at UNC when he was offered a chance to come home..but after this game and KU winning the title, I put his leaving to rest
@kneuer7 жыл бұрын
If we hit even 60% of our free throws that 2nd half, we win. Roy didn't lose that game, our inability to hit free throws did.

If he doesn't lose he probably doesn't go to UNC, I'm happy it played out the way it did, Kansas and UNC both got good coaches.

I agree, Mario Chalmers had a breakout season that year, and the most success in the NBA. Brandon Rush turned out to be a bust, and so did Cole Aldrich and Sherron went undrafted and Russell Robinson, Darnell Jackson turned out to be a bust too.😒😒

Hansbrough being undersized big with no length and not having skilled offensive game really showed this game. He had toughness and scoring ability but just didn’t translate in the nba

I hate when commentators say things like "This game is over..." when there is clearly enough time for a comeback. Clearly he was trying to jinx Kansas.

I think you underestimate Billy Packers incompetence! He made a number of "crazy, nonsensical" remarks during this Final Four that forced his retirement! This was the most egregious as it could have impacted the viewing audience numbers, which means money and that was unforgivable!

He knew this was his last Final Four (he had already negotiated his retirement package with CBS effective the end of this tournament). His last decade or so at CBS he kept getting into trouble over various controversial comments on and off air so I think he just didn't give an eff anymore at this point. His commentary wasn't as sharp as it had been over the years either.

Difference between Roy Williams and Bill Self regarding FTs in Final Four: 2002 vs. Syracuse: 14 for 30 2008 vs. Memphis: 14 for 15 Think Roy was distracted enough to emphasize the importance of FT shooting? I think so.
@carsonc297 жыл бұрын
I dont think the UNC chatter in 2002 was an issue for the team..FT's have nothing to do with coaching or strategy..even if Roy was distracted, it wouldnt affect the players hitting FT...they just clanked them...even hitting half of them would have given them the win...its tough to say if Roy still would have left KU if they had won the title

if unc didnt have a bad start they woulda won this game and the championship
@giant7047 жыл бұрын
That bad start was due to KU being the most complete team in yhe nation, the most prepared, the hungriest, Ty Lawson ankle not 100%, playing in the state of Texas, and Roy Williams never calling a TO.
@scottbrady96399 жыл бұрын
There is NO WAY Lawson was 100% in this game. He had been limping ever since that FSU player fell on his leg. He took over too many games to get ran over like that. KU fans, quit hating UNC. It's not our fault the best coaches are drawn to light blue.

@Jagnole1018 жыл бұрын
+Jax P that Kansas team won the most games ever with 37 for a national champion until 2012 Kentucky won 38 games. This Kansas team was beast. Beating the tar out of the Tarheels, beating Stephen Curry, and beating Derrick Rose with Memphis is impressive. They also took it to Durant and the champion the year before in UF. They were a legit team. UNC only won it the next year, because literally everyone returned.
@Jagnole1018 жыл бұрын
+Xavier DuBose whose to say KU just didn't come out more focused? They wanted it more, and they hit them in the mouth early. They just came off a close game against Stephen Curry, so they were ready.
