@@FPSRelic Why yes it is. Are you trying to teach me? The L98 has a better cam as well which increases HP. The fact the DOD is removed makes it a more reliable alternative and a better engine. @FPSRelic3 жыл бұрын
@@dcr1545 Your statement was "the L98 is a way stronger and better engine" The key word being "way". I'm just pointing out that it isn't. Do a cam upgrade to both engines and you end up with the exact same engine. And what makes a "better" engine is subjective. If you do a lot of highway driving, the L76 can be a better engine as it can be more economical on fuel.
@dcr15453 жыл бұрын
@@FPSRelic it's not just the cam. It's also the lifters which is a problem in the L76 and L77 motor's. Yes you can get a cam upgrade but I was talking about from factory. Plus who in their right mind buys a V8 to save fuel? The L98 is a stronger motor. You can do a cam upgrade in a L98 and it will outperform a LS2 due to the L98 having LS3 head's but that's not what I stated. I simply said those who have a choice would chose a L98 over a L76 or L77 everyday of the week. Hey both have huge potential but it will cost you more to upgrade a L76 compared to a L98. That's fact.

When holden started they were what I think is called a vertically tiered company. What that meant is that every part that was needed to build their cars was built in house. Holden even made the nuts and bolts that was needed I believe. The involvement in the G8(commodore) was very limited. The US provided the motor and the gearbox. Australia did the rest. The chasis was built on a global GM platform that Holden was contracted to design. I believe it is called the sigma platform.

@avx7 Fair enough but Holden did make the car first. The plant/factory that makes the commodore is in Australia. The g8 grill was built their too. The only thing put on it in the usa is the pontiac badge. when pontiac closed, holden released a limited edition commodore that had the left over g8 grills to get rid of them. Hsv used left over gxp badges. The pontiac badge on the steering wheel is inside a circle because the holden badge is round and fits perfectly in the circle.

I would have to say it's not that they can't, it's simply that they don't want to. Take a look at the dyno charts for that engine and you'll see why. Take note of the very wide and flat torque curve. It's strong at any RPM, and it doesn't much care what gear its in. This also allows highway cruising barely above idle speed, allowing it to match or exceed the fuel economy of many smaller engines that have to work much harder to achieve the same. In real life driving, its also more enjoyable.

There should be extenuating circumstances for why Holden developed the Sigma for the Commodore then decided to use the V platform instead. Also, no, I'm not trying to pull credit away from Australian designers at all. I actually do own a GTO, and I'll be the first to say that without the motor inside, I would have never purchased it. Both the GTO and G8 are decent performers, but the only time they really shine is when you pit them against a retro-styled pig. Take all the credit you want for the car, it really doesn't set shit for a benchmark in handling.

@dpgsoldier You're going to see the Holden Caprice soon with Chevy badges as a police cruiser

test drove a g8 gt today and have nothing but good things to say about it. guy let me take it out on my own and did 100mph on a back street. fucking amazing car!

No i just watched the video and commented on it. I dont go through and check three months worth of comments, i was simply commenting on THE VIDEO which was innacurate and a little misleading. Going through, yes there are more comments detailing that the commodore/g8 is australian and im glad that it is the case. So stop whinging cause I felt compelled to re-inform and correct.

I realize Holden's headquarters is in Australia. That does not change the fact that they are still owned by GM. Cadillac is another division owned by GM. Their headquarters are not the same as GM's either. I never said Saab, Vauxhall, and Opel were different than Holden, they are all owned by GM as well.

Holden is a subsidiary of GM, thus is owned by GM. Therefore, GM has the ultimate input in the production. The Pontiac G8 was a GM car, built in Australia, and then brought to the US as the G8.
@mil16113 жыл бұрын
@79HZGTS It was launched in the UK before North America. the GTO was a copy of the Vauxhall Monaro, and that was a copy of the Holden Monaro. they are all GM.

Turns out that even though the G8 spanked the Charger all over these tests, the Charger still didn't have to worry about the G8 being real competition because GM failed to properly market the G8. In 2009 Pontiac sold 23,000 G8s and Dodge sold 60,000 Chargers. Perhaps if GM actually marketed the car as a car that can beat Dodge's popular Charger, they wouldn't have had to kill it. I think the G8 is awesome. It should have never been killed off.

That 5 speed automatic on the charger really numbs down performance. Sounds like it drops out of the power band when it shifts where the Pontiac just keeps on trucking.
@xxgrimravenxx51723 жыл бұрын
I know this is old but it's not the trans, it's the 2.89 gear in the rear axle, for highway driving fuel economy not for racing that's why they feel slower then they should lol
@redspeeder98483 жыл бұрын
@@xxgrimravenxx5172 Whats funny is the standard G8 GT still has a 2.92 rear end. The powertrain with the extra gear and higher redline help it stay in that sweet spot.
@xxgrimravenxx51723 жыл бұрын
@@redspeeder9848 good call, lol thats the goal, to stay in the power band all the time,, the charger would really benefit of they made a 3.55 rear end for it or if you can swap in a getrag 3.91 that would keep the car in its power range more often

G8 is much better looking it looks badass, the R/T meh no Fíats for me thanks!.

You are forgetting that Holden led the final design, engineering, and development of the Camaro. They are the RWD development center for GM
@NailStrafer16 жыл бұрын
Actually it was. The guy in the video said both of them were "all American", which is kind of a weird statement when he admits just a little bit later that the Dodge has Mercedes-style engineering.
@mtooshort2015 жыл бұрын
No, the G8 uses the same 3.6L DOHC V6 as the Cadillac CTS, Camaro V6, and Malibu LTZ. It makes 250+hp and a little less torque and gets the best fuel economy of the bunch. The reason ppl say not to get the V6 is b/c you will never get the feel of the V8 from that V6, therfore, they say its not worth it. But if ur in the market for one, go ahead and get the G8 GT or GXP. The brand is gone, so they will be worth a lot in the future, and GXP will be rare and worth waay more in years to come :)

@Dsquadddd ummm, Holden has been a sub of GM for ages and with lots of technology sharing and re-badging. It's produced in Australia but still a GM car to me.

I'm really liking the G8 the more I see people here in FLA Tunning them and busting Chargers / CTS-V/Some BMW's here. they look good with a nice set of performance wheels and kits, as if it didn't look mean enough.

@AUSSIEDAVEROCKS Well that would explain how they actually perform so well lol. When are they getting the caprice or ppv?

The g8 is coming back as the new caprice in 2011. It's a commedore at heart. The charger is a mercedes design when they owned dodge.

VE was the first locally designed platform so no its a 100% developed Australian car with a unique chassis, though the platform will be adopted by Cadillac in 2010.
@Mechknight7314 жыл бұрын
@Vladmir917 It does! just not with Pontiac badges. It goes to the Middle east as a Chevy Lumina, to England as a Vauxhall VXR8, and of course in its native form, the VE Holden Commodore in Australia

So shouldn't they have used the SRT8? I mean, a GT performance versus a R/T standard version?
