Originally introduced for the 2005 model year, the H2 SUT's was Hummer's more powerful and presence-announcing version of the hugely popular Chevrolet Avalanche that combined some of the best attributes of a truck and an SUV. By virtue of its open pickup bed and removable midgate, the SUT had more versatility - and style in our opinion - than the H2 SUV. Originally equipped with GM's rock-solid 6.0L Vortec V8 engine which produced 325 Horsepower and 360 lb ft of torque, 2008 marked the introduction of the fire-breathing 6.2L Vortec V8 that boasted original factory specifications of 393 Horsepower and 415 lb ft of torque. But, as tempting as this injection of more go-go juice was (and for many of us just having almost 70 more horsepower under-foot would have been enough to sign on the dotted line), GM didn't stop adding icing to the cake there. They also upgraded the drivetrain to include a new 6-Speed Automatic Transmission with Manual Shift Control; a Dual-Range Transfer Case; Electronic Throttle Control with a more gradual calibration in low range, and a Driver-Selectable Rear-Differential Locker. And for the proverbial "Cherry on Top", that new 6-Speed Auto - according to GM - improved the H2's overall crawl ratio by about 20%. For those not familiar with that term, "Crawl Ratio" is the ratio of torque at the wheels to the engine flywheel torque. The higher the crawl ratio, the more control the vehicle will have to go crawl over obstacles while a lower crawl ratio would be great for daily driving. For the "haulers" out there, this new powerplant also increased the towing capacity by a remarkable 1,500 pounds - now up to 8,000 pounds. All these new goodies in "Santa's SUV Sack" translated to an H2 SUT that was head-and-shoulders above the previous generation by virtually all drivability means measurable. Mechanically, this ultra-low-mileage H2 SUT starts, runs, drives and performs exactly like you'd expect one of these seemingly run-forever engines to with no "Check Engine", "ABS" or "Airbag" lights present.
