I just got my grandma’s 08 Hyundai Santa Fe that is very informative and I used to work at Walmart and I do my own oil changes because I don’t want to pay the high price of them doing it and getting rid of the oil

I bet it’s still low miles for an 08. Good car.

Excellent video sir. My wife has this exact vehicle (40 k miles now) that we bought new, and I have performed all of the oil and filter changes. Two things: I’ve always refilled with 5.5 quarts, so when I saw you used 6 quarts I got the owner’s manual out, and it does in fact show 5.49 quarts on page 9.4. Not sure if 1/2 quart is a big deal, just saying. The other thing I noticed, the washer on the drain plug (I think it’s called a crush or crusher washer that comes with the Hyundai brand oil filter) is supposed to be replaced with each oil change, flat side toward the pan. I suppose if oil doesn’t leak after tightening the plug it doesn’t matter. Anyway, like I mentioned, very well done video and thank you.

Glad you enjoyed my video. I agree with you that manual recommends 5.5 Quarts, however after performing well over 50 oil changes on this old beast, I always put in 5.5, start it, let it run for around 5 mins, shut it down and check the level on the stick while parked on a flat surface. It always shows 1/2 quart low and I always have to add the other half to be at the Full mark. I'm curious what level your at on the stick after adding 5.5? As far as the brass washer goes around the plug, I just rotate it back and forth after every oil change, and have never had an issue. Have a great day and thanks again for checking out my video, Tony - Compextremes

Well, I waited until my next oil change to check, like I mentioned I use the Hyundai brand filter and I have always used Castrol 5w/20 full synthetic, 5.5 quarts. I started it up, ran it for a moment while checking for any leaks, then waited for 30 minutes after shutting it off. The dipstick was exactly on the full line. Maybe a difference on the full mark on different dipsticks? Not sure why one shows full and another shows .5 quart low, but that’s my experience. Anyway, 40k miles and still runs perfect, so I guess we’re both doing something right. I think the key is self maintenance: I don’t trust anyone else to do it right. OCD thing ya know.

Thanks, very helpful. I have never changed an oil filter of this style or in this location and this video was great.

184K Miles? What sort of maintenance have you had to do? Valve lash? Any major repairs? We have a 2007 3.3L and about 74K miles. It did have some slight ticking "lifter noise" in one corner when we first got it, but seems to have gone away.

I actually have 226,000 on it now, and besides a couple sets of tires and brakes I’ve done very little else on it it terms of repairs to this vehicle. It’s been the most reliable SUV I’ve ever owned. 😀

@@compextremes Have you had to repair the pesky valve cover gasket leak onto the alternator? I can't seem to get that permanently fixed. Everytime it starts leaking again after a few thousand miles. It was a recall for this specific vehicle. Had it fixed twice but it's back again. If so, what did you do to prevent is from happening again so soon? Thank you.

@@pattycheeze It started leaking on mine at about 196,000 also, but not that bad so I have just pretty much ignored it. I have about 246,000 on this beast now, and it has been the most reliable SUV I’ve ever purchased. 🤌🏼😎

@@compextremes I'm at 145,000 miles and the leak is pissing me off lol. how many miles did it have when you bought it? I like the car, but the oil leak on the alternator from the valve cover gaskets is dangerous and could cause me to lose power while driving.

Hey what’s a way to loosen the oil filter it’s pretty tight on there?
@compextremes2 жыл бұрын
Grab an oil filter wrench or a big piece of rubber mesh used for lining toolbox drawers. It should give you enough grip to loosen it. 👌🏼

@@compextremes thanks so much for the advice on using the rubber mesh to take off the oil filter cap on the 2008 Hyundai Santa fe I've been cussing for over a week trying to get that dam cap off ....thanks again brother

It’s a 3.3 liter engine and you just put 6 quarts of fluids
@compextremes3 жыл бұрын
If you put the front wheels on ramps or jack it up and let it drain for at least 15 mins with the oil filter out to get most all the oil out, yes it’s 6 quarts of oil and will measure to around the full mark of the dip stick when done! 👌🏼
