2008 Mercury Mariner 3.0L Alternator Replacement

This one is different from other ones I have done because the alternator is in the front and not buried in the back next to the firewall.

08 Mercury Milan, I believe it's the same engine. If, or not, definitely some good info. With Ford really being tough, it's never plain and simple, you literally have to go in to remove their parts.

I had to change the alternator on my 2007 Ford Escape with the 3 L V6. Yes, it is a pain in the...😬. At the same time, I was also replacing my valve cover gaskets and intake gaskets etc., so I was able to pull the alternator up through the top side since I had all of the intake out-of-the-way. It was still very tight getting it out that way, but it can be done. So I did not have to remove the axle. It helps if you have skinny hands also.😂

Trying to diagnose my 08 mercury mariner alternator issues. I've replaced it with a new battery and new alternator. I'm trying to find out where the voltage regulator is located on this alternator before I buy anything and dove back in there. Any help with that would be seriously appreciated, having a hard time finding answers online. Thanks ❤

The voltage regulator is inside the alternator. Be sure to check all the fuses.

We have the same car, mariner 2008. At first, we thought it had issues with battery. We bought new battery for the car but after almost 2 weeks, it died and wouldn’t start at all. We have to get tow truck to bring it home. Upon searching what could be the possible problem, it all goes to battery or alternator. It is our first time to ask for mechanic, i hope you dont mind my asking, like how much is the price range/quote for it to be fixed? We are from Louisiana. Thank you so much!

I would first recharge the battery with a battery charger. Then get the battery and alternator tested. A battery will not last 2 weeks with the alternator that is not working.

How did you actually loosen/tighten the top bolt? I can't seem to get any kind of wrench on it because of the tight space. I'm thinking I'll have to take the radiator out to do this one...

I think I used a wrench from the wheel well side after I lowered the A/C.

@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore I finally managed to get a short 15mm socket on it with a breaker bar after I loosened the radiator brackets and pulled it forward two inches. That space is super tight.

I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner. My radio is messing up a lot. The Aux port, USB port and Bluetooth are not working most of the time. The Alternator is OVERCHARGING. Could that be a reason why I'm having issues with my radio? Even the AC/HEAD power button doesn't always work. Usually when the battery sign is on, everything work again for a few minutes.

Yes that is possible. If your alt is leaking AC voltage it will mess stuff up. Thanks for watching

No one the v6 yours is by the firewall much harder to do.

I have an 05 3.0 and the dealer wants $2,200. I don't have the fortitude to do it myself even without it being a extensive job. I have found a few other places that want less than the dealership, but was thinking alternator jobs were $700 or less with labor included. My truck is not worth the 7+ hours everyone is claiming it takes.

I think that one the alternator is against the firewall. Its much harder to do. Axle have to come out and there is no room to work.
