Thank you for providing this helpful video! It enabled me to successfully repair my 2008 Nissan Rogue. The tutorial's instructions on removing the bolts from the valve body were accurate. I took the extra step of labeling all the screws from the valve. I strongly advise wearing protective goggles, as it can be quite a messy job. Based on my experience, I also recommend labeling the transmission pan bolts to avoid any mix-ups, which I encountered. Additionally, I applied silicone to the pan and allowed it to cure for 24 hours before adding the CVT oil. I measured the amount of oil drained and added the same quantity. After starting the engine, I shifted between gears to ensure the CVT fluid circulated through the transmission. Initially, I noticed a bit of sluggishness in acceleration for the first few minutes, but after about five minutes, the vehicle ran smoothly without any issues. Many thanks and God bless you for sharing this invaluable video!

2010 Nissan Rouge. Code P1778. At first I was upset because my first crack at changing the step motor was unsuccessful. Car would only shift into Drive,No Reverse. Watched your video again and disassembled the valve body for a second time. Possible problem, I left a washer off of a metal cylinder tube that was center top of transmission, it fell off and I didn’t know where it belonged. I also think my Allen wrench was to short to keep the mechanism on the valve body in position to get full gear functioning. Second time around I used a really thin and long flat head screw driver. Thanks Again For your very descriptive video and much needed and appreciated pointers.

Just another piece of advice for you all. I replaced my stepper motor but it didn’t work. I realized I needed to change the valve body BECAUSE I noticed the ratio control valve/rod was jamming therefore not allowing the ratio to change. This also causes a 1778 code because the stepper motor is connected to it. So make sure the rod slides in and out without difficulty.

I have codes for pressure control solenoid & torque converter clutch solenoid.. this will pretty much be the same job right? Will I need to worry about the Allen wrench thing replacing those? Any tips much appreciated

Nissan has a problem.. I've owned two in the last 5 yrs.. First one, shame on Nissan.. Second one, shame on me. I don't recommend Nissan to anyone, because the CVT will fail. My first one failed at or around 80 thousand miles.. The second one failed just a few days ago, at 87K. It'll cost you around $3 grand to replace, and once the trans starts to slip, you'll get a P17F0 code.. which won't clear unless you can drive a cycle without the belt slipping.

Question. I did everything here literally everything from numbering the bolts to the small L Ranch in the hole except after changing the stepper motor a couple of times I went with changing out the whole valve body but it still after the step motors and new valve body it isn’t catching gears. Any advice?

you have to reprogram the valve body

So when you take the pan off, is going to leak the 11 quarts cvt fluid you put in at the end? just making sure so i start to order the fluid.

I have the issue with my 2010 Nissan Altima not responding to the throttle but it only happens after I've been driving for a while on the highway. Once I pullover and restart, it seems to reset (but it will happen again sometimes after getting up to speed). I haven't seen that code come up though. Is it possible the step motor is the issue even if no code pops up? For reference I currently have a catalytic converter code showing, but I don't think that would keep other codes from appearing. If it's not possible, do you know what else could cause the car to not accelerate? Thanks! Awesome video!

Hello my 2012 nissan altima is doing same thing did you found out what is the problem?

I'm just amazed at how well you did this. Great job. Question 🙋... Could I change the whole valve body instead of just the step motor? I have a junk yard who has 2012 altima? Mine is 2010.

I ended up replacing the whole valve body about a year after this video, so not a bad idea to just do the whole valve body while your down there
