i agree. My aunt had reining horses back in the 70's. Mr. McQuay has such an easy way in the saddle and his horse looks so natural and just right all the way arround.

@slidenspins I didn't say the head has to be up. I said it isn't practical for the head to be down by the horse's knees. Nothing wrong with a middle of the road, level topline. LarryT.

There is a reason Tim stood in his stirrups during those stops. He's won a million dollors riding reining horses. There's a good chance he knows what he's doing. Larry T.

Both rides were excellent. Tim won because he had better stops, sharper rollbacks, and no penalties. Although Cody's ride was pretty his horse went out of lead in the hind end in the last quarter of the second large fast circle to the left and he was scrambling to get back in lead in the back.

Tim's style is not old style. It's "practical" style. A horse's head down by his knees during a run-down makes no sense. Larry T.

@davidkozelsky i dont particularly like tim mcquay but what was wrong with the ride? did you see the stops? they were awesome!

No way, the horses are judged on the maneuvers take another look at both horses stops, McQuays were long sliding stops with the the horse peddling free on the front end. Saperigas horse had chunky stops.

While cody's go was smoother, Tim's horse slid deeper and looked like it was trying harder. It is a tough call to determine who was better but maybe the judges thought McQuay was 'going for it' more than Cody? Who knows

I didn't say, it doesn't win. I said it doesn't make sense. And no, head level has more to do with training style than anything else. Larry T.

don't the horses get dizzy when they go in circles like that?

I think the horse should have set his head more, but other than that it was a good ride.

They scored him that way because he's Canadian.

Did anyone bother to take into account that Cody was out of lead in his second large circle to the left? I think the judges did a good job and Tim didnt win on his name he won because he had the best ride with out penalty's that night! Personally I liked Tims ride a bit better than Cody's but they were both great runs for 3 year olds and without the penalty it may have been a different outcome!

Shame on judges.....were they drinking? I'm no pro but if this ride won him $150 000......I'm speachless. Realy, I'm so sorry for the rest of riders. Return the MONEY...!!!

You should go back and look at both horses stopping, Tim's horse slid long & kept right on peddling. Saperiga's horse, had chunky stops. Where in any pattern does it say where a horses head is suppose to be? no place, the horse is judged on the maneuvers. I'd rather see a horse going natural and not intimidated looking.

Mr. McQuay obviously has a huge skill base and a lot talent, but he is alsovery much obese and because of that his riding is off balance, his hips and back are too stiff and and his horses back must be pretty sore from all that bouncing.
