As many know, Saturn was one of the last brands to go belly up from GM in the late 2000's. The Aura, just like a few other cars in the line, was one of the last European derived cars to be delivered to help save the brand. Today there are still a few of these cars driving around to this day, as one of the last surviving modern day examples of Saturn's brand. So is it still a modern enough car despite the loss of the brand? Watch the review to find out!

As of April of 2022 my wife has had her Saturn Aura XR 3.6 for over four years. Same color as in this video too ! It had a little over 80,000 miles on it when we got it. The car was a gift to my wife from her mother. I drive for a volunteer service taking people to and from their doctor's appointments and put on between 25 and 30K miles every year. The car came to us with a mystery vibration. I had the tires balanced... still vibrating. I had the alignment checked... still vibrated. Blah blah blah... and after four years now, I've replaced the entire front suspension, brakes, calipers, wheel bearing assemblies, lower control arms, struts, links, everything. And it still has that mystery vibration. I've replaced the rear shocks in the past, but recently noticed a broken spring on the driver's side so I purchased new springs as well as shocks. Turns out, both coil springs were broken. Funny how that little fact remained hidden for so long, but now the vibration that has plagued my life for over four years is GONE ! The car has always been a nice driver with the exception of that vibration and the electronics. The electronics have been another plague that this car has. I'm considering replacing the entire wiring harness. Not sure yet. The car has over 238,000 miles on it now and there is a bit of rust appearing under the rockers. My wife loves the car. My clients love the car, I'm always getting compliments on the car :) Since the car was in fact given to us, I don't mind spending the money on it... which to date is over $5,000.00 in parts, I do my own work, so there is no real labor cost. The car handles like a dream. It corners at high speeds like a race car (hugs the road tight) and is a pleasure to drive. Now that the vibration is gone, I need to tackle the electronics issues and then we'll have a beautiful car that'll be needing a complete engine and transmission overhaul in the next three years or so . . . LoL I still drive the car almost every single day, nearly two hundred miles every time I take it out of the driveway. And I love it.

I'm torn between three cars but the top 2 are a 07 Accord V6 with the 6speed and the 07 Aura XR. Have you had any problems or has it been basic maintenance? I'm planning on getting a dealer to do the searching for me lol

As a kid, I always loved the way these looked! For the timeframe they were from, they really stood out (at least in my opinion). Seems like they are good cars from all of the high mile comments!

Had a loaded 08' XR. Bought it new and put just over 70k on the odometer before I traded it. At the time I thought it was a satisfyingly quick car with above average handling capabilities. But compared to my 17' GLI it's really no contest. The Volkswagen just wipes the floor with the Saturn in terms of overall performance and refinement, and obviously we're talking about a full decade of technological advancements in the GLI but, for its time the Aura was a really nice ride. No complaints and very reliable.

I have the 2009 XR, 97.8k miles. I love it, apart from having to fix the transmission after something in it shattered, but other than that everything works great. It's quick and comfortable

The chevy Malibu and Aura plus G6 all had navigation. threw the on star. I have a 09 Aura and I use the navigation all the time. Hit the on star button and tell them were you want too go. and they will put the navigation in the radio.

The Sat Nav is not a problem nowadays, as you can get something like that on your own phone. Still, what a nice car. They also came with an amazing brown leather interior.

That engine is NOT direct injection, these were sequential multi-point and also have a lower compression ratio than the direct-injected versions. This does mean a lower overall output but i would bet they last longer than the newer ones and 250hp/250lb-ft is still pretty good...

There is an incorrect statement made regarding the engine in the video. This car uses the 3.6L GM LY7, which was NOT direct injected, but rather, it was port injected. The LY7 in the Saturn Auras did NOT use cylinder deactivation (2/4/8 or 3/6 modes) , although this engine was designed to be able to use that feature. The subsequent 3.6L LTT was direct injected.

Also, 87 octane is recommended for the LY7 (port injection, the engine in this video). Some cars that use the LTT (direct injection version) have a PCM with octane tables that can handle "low octane" and "high octane" and in some cases, in-between.. there's articles written about this.. it's all about engine knock, but the engine timings used to correct the knocking can have an effect on horsepower, albeit small.. keep in mind, this is very unusual, and this car's PCM may not have that capability, and would thus essentially run the same regardless, and perhaps even run worse on the higher octane. The owner's manual recommends 87 octane for this vehicle.

That being said, I have one of these engines, and will try out premium gasoline (91/93) next time I get gas, and see what happens.. I seem to recall my engine running differently on 89 once, but that was probably all in my head.

That ticking you're hearing in the video when he opens the hood is the PCV, purge control valve, part of that PCM I mentioned earlier, and is norma/typical for this engine.

@@tirkentube We just got this car for my girlfriend and that ticking was very noticeable. Is it was sporadic I wasn't too worried about it... But a bit worried about it and same time. The amount of theories I heard about with the noise is was staggering.

have a 2008 XR. Got vids posted of me working on it. Pretty quick car, with a rebuilt rack handles good, just popped on some KYBs up front ride is much better. The interior is a bit quirky and the flattening of the roof for the larger interior space exacts a tool on outward visibility, however. the 3.6 does burn a good amount of oil at 124k miles now. Power is still good, with 60 happening in about 6 seconds, give or take. Have a vid posted of the exhaust with resonator delete it sounds good.

The 3.6 is not direct injection, it is port injected. The Saturn was not brought from Europe but the platform was shared between Pontiac, Chevy, Saturn, Vauxhaul, Saab, and opel. The Saturn Aura is a copy clone of the Chevy Malibu with a different front rear bumper.

I bought my Saturn Aura 2009 XR 2.4L used as-is from dealer for $3,900 and only thing I was aware of was locked didn't all work. Now 4 months later and $4000 later again in parts and repairs that have been constant.. some to include wheel bearings, struts, shocks, missing tire pressure regulator valves, radiator hoses, brakes, and the list goes on and on and on,... back in the ship again today and yesterday for more repairs with check engine light on!! totally disappointing on this Saturn after being a previous owner of a Saturn SW2 wagon which needed next to nothing for repairs.

It actually does have some relationship & design collaboration - more correctly stated, with the Opel Vectra. It's built on an extended Vectra platform, based on the same architecture. They share styling, particularly on the fascia - and the Aura basically adopted Opel's current design language for its tail.
