When you mention the relays, on the Foxwell scanner that has the brake bleeding service on it it says to take out the two relays prior to bleeding the front brakes. And this is after you replace everything and start the bleeding process

Mine just went out last night on my LS460, if I can find a used working unit for cheap I will do it myself, of course I'll have to get the techstream software. This thing should be under a safety recall, that was a slightly dangerous slow drive home manually downshifting with those brakes not functioning properly to stop the vehicle.

I have the same issue with my 2006 Highlander and it's out of Warranty. So many of these actuators go bad that I didn't feel comfortable buying a used one. I think there is a pretty good chance that a used one won't last very long and you will just be stuck doing the job again. Apparently Toyota has attempted to fix the issue with a new part design/manufacturing, so I went ahead and bought the unit new. My local Toyota dealership here in California wanted $1800 just for the part, so I bought it online from a dealership in Virginia for $1150 including tax and shipping. I'm a mechanical person so I might go ahead and buy that software and do the install myself. If you have any last minute tips I would love to hear them!
@diyautorepair58584 жыл бұрын
Make sure you get a cable that supports the bleeding process the cheap $20 eBay ones will give error messages halfway through the bleeding process and you will have to do it many times to get all the way through and it will drive you crazy. Sometimes when your actuator motor burns out it blows a fuse in the main fuse block not sure if 06 is the same style fuse block.
@PimptatoPCs4 жыл бұрын
@@diyautorepair5858 Thanks for the quick reply. After looking under my hood, the 2006 model is different than the 08 but not by much. It actually looks a bit easier to uninstall the part. I'm thinking about getting this cable and software bundle off Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/huc/view.html?ie=UTF8&newItems=C260f82c4-279f-4ecc-8d6d-cfef0eee76d8%2C1&siHasShown=1 All the bleeding and everything is done through the software? No extra steps after swapping the part out? It seems too easy haha.

@@PimptatoPCs did you replace your actuator? If so, how did it go? What techstream software/cable did you use?
@PimptatoPCs4 жыл бұрын
@@JoannaM.Wilson-RealtorNJ Yes I replaced it and everything went surprisingly smooth. The actuator is pretty easy to remove. On the 2006 I had to remove the battery because it was in the way. I linked the software and cable in my previous comment. I bought one off Amazon because it was Prime shipping and I needed it asap. The software was a little weird but I figured it out by watching a video where someone was using it to bleed the brakes on a Prius. For the bleeding process to work you have to unplug the sensor from the side of the brake fluid reservoir and then turn the key on without your foot on the brake pedal. After I did that, the bleeding process worked the first time without any errors. It's so nice to have the beeping and lights on the gauge cluster gone. Honestly, the amount of money that Toyota wants for this part and install is borderline criminal imo. Anyone with a little mechanical skills can get it done without any issues. Sorry for the long response!

Only downvoted, cuz this is not true. Currently working on a 2010 Highlander. Used pressurized brake bleeder, can confirm that YOU CAN NOT bleed brakes manually to fix issue, even after replacing actuator/pump assembly.

@@fixfernbacks144 Before pump brake bleeding systems all cars were manually bled. More than one post is from an example done that way. What was the fault and what did you replace before bleeding it manually cos I doubt
@georgeedwards32842 ай бұрын
@@NEWCASTLE_AUTOKIING_GBL I replaced brake actuator. I did a a manual brake bleed 2 years ago on a 2007 Toyota Highlander. Here's how, after removing old actuator you have to make sure the new actuator reservoir is full of brake oil, and before reattaching brake lines to actuator lightly tap brakes quarter of way, keep pedal down, to make sure suite of actuator lines are full of brake oil before reconnecting to the actuator reservoir. Thus the air in lines is negligible. You can do this bleed with a partner, or buy a 36" clamp at Harbor Freight ($10) and reverse the end of one foot, then place foot on opposite end of clamp, to use to hold brake pedal down. You can also use this now brake depressor tool to do a complete brake bleed by yourself. With all the brake lines connected to new actuator reservoir bleed the actuator first, and the brake lines to wheels last. Works great and many have commented it worked for them.

I’m curious about the Techstream software you used. Is that something you already had? If not, where did you get it? Thanks for the great video and for any info you can provide about the Techstream.

I borrowed it from a friend. The cheap EBay cables won't get all the way through the bleeding process. You can use the cheap EBay software but need a Mongoose cable that's around $400. Some people say you can use the Mangoose cable that is only $40 but I haven't tried it.
