What kept Shayla Worley off the olympic team? I assume back injury?
@InevitableMonth2910 ай бұрын
I remember seeing pictures of her coming out in a wheelchair at the Karolyi camp, which suggests she got injured at camp right after trials. So many injuries in that horrid place, to think what these athletes must have gone through there.

Watched the all-around women’s gymnastics today from 2024. They scored much much higher back in 2008. However, I thought Biles is completing routines that are much more difficult than back then. Did something change?
@emeyy4648Ай бұрын
the code of points has downgraded a lot of the moves in the routines here meaning that if these routines were performed today theyd have a lesser start value compared to the routines simone is performing. but also execution scores were wild in 2008 and judging has become more strict so the e scores that the gymnasts got here wouldnt stand in 2024, like nastias bar routine for example

Why doesn't anyone have 2008 Day 2 trials?
@Jaycee1200_4 жыл бұрын
I love Nastia but I hate when they say the front flip to one leg was Nastia's original move and she came up with it on her own. It was done by a Romanian gymnast in the 2007 worlds during the team and BB finals.
@Jaycee1200_3 жыл бұрын
@@airtonpaiva5389 Look up Steliana Nistor 2007 world championships beam finals. Nastia won those beam finals if I remember correctly. And after watching Nistor in those beam finals, Nastia went home and perfected that move and debuted it at the 2008 American Cup and told everyone that she came up with it all on her own 😳🤦♀️

Every meet like the national competitions in America were overscored back then compare their scores to Beijing
@colesmith75094 жыл бұрын
No one's bars are as overscored as Nastia's. Her dismount was a 0.3 leg separation, 0.1 flexed feet, 0.5 squat (really a fall but whatever they counted it as her landing it), a 0.3 step, and honestly a body posture fault. Her dismount had a minimum of 1.2 in deductions alone. It's insane that she ever won medals with her dismount and especially that that routine got a 9.0 E score
@Lana2k64 жыл бұрын
They were very lenient even by 2008 standards. She would have been lucky to break an 8.0 E-score under the current Code.
@johannas56224 жыл бұрын
Isn't there a limit of deductions for a skill competed without a fall? I thought it was like 0.8. I could easily be wrong though.
@colesmith75094 жыл бұрын
@@johannas5622 The rule is the landing deduction specifically can't be more than 0.8 if they don't fall. Other deductions like flexed feet or separated legs can be added on
@colesmith75094 жыл бұрын
@@Lana2k6 I get that but they were especially with her. Shawn had bent arms but that was basically it and she had lower E scores consistently

I wish someone would go thru all these old comps and delete all images, and every mention if the Karoyli's. I don't even live in the US and I want to erase them from my mind for all the damage they did to this sport
@adam40194 ай бұрын
Disagree. Good or bad - they were a major influence on the outcomes during their years. Society learns little from erasing things - we need to acknowledge and grow. And we cannot acknowledge if we just delete it.
@scottw67042 ай бұрын
That would make very, very short videos as they were the ones responsible for gymnastics' rising popularity in the US. - they hit the ground running here in 1982. Mary Lou Retton was quoted as saying they (they gymnasts) always knew the Karolyis were incredibly tough on their girls in Romania BUT...they always won. That being said, without the Nassar incident I would guess they'd still be running things in the US today.
@davedavey-y8e2 ай бұрын
It's bs blaming them... Where were the parents, coaches was no one taking care of those girls or they expected head of USA wag to not only train and develop elite gymnasts but also build their self worth, get them through puberty, make sure they aren't ignorant and not be clueless if they get fingered 😂
