I am talking about using the same ball across the field...not specifically using plastic. But folks can definitely score well with plastic. They do not have to make as many adjustments.
@doomusrlc5 жыл бұрын
@@leebertie57 I could see the ball companies having a fit over having to not rep their equipment on the show. Maybe if the PBA could make a rule that the bowlers can only use ball X for each company? Simple pancake weight ball and that's it for each one (i will note I have no clue if each company has a pancake weight heh). But I do agree I'd love to see this plastic ball tournament come back as a title event.

defeating a legend passed his prime barley, against a future star that's already at his prime, that's never been done before, or maybe it has been done before, but not an amateur bowler doing that, especially an amateur In his mid 30s, taking on 2 guys that are middle middle, with 1 guy already to his 50s, and one to his mid 20s, like that's crazy to do that, It's like the good bad and the ugly In a way, crazy even the way how it ended, like no way that can happen again, that's a million to 1 chance that will ever happen again, no way It can ever be done again.

This really warmed my heart....not only because it was the local guy....but nostalgia....i grew up in babylon 5 min away from babylon bowl....bowled in the same league for 12 years in that very center....and i knew about half the people sitting in the crowd....what a moment....and oh yeah..to beat the greatest bowler ever and the greatest bowler at the time to win....priceless....

There were so many great story lines in this event. The legend who survived a stroke with the help of his wife. Spoilers below. The bowler with two bad knees and almost no approach but still advanced with a great score. The all time great pro giving the kids all they could handle. The two handed bowler revolutionizing the sport early in his career. And the home town favorite who left the PBA to finally get his first win as an amateur. If this was a movie, we wouldn't believe it. It reminded me of "Rudy."

Boy belmo use to be a POWER player now in his older days he uses a lot more finesse and slower speeds. Crazy to see 22 mph 600+ revs in his younger days.
@iconredesign Жыл бұрын
He still does hat from time to time. Early on like you see here, he’s basically throwing a Norm Duke frozen rope and piping it at the 1-3 with twice the revs, but by circling the lane, he’s getting better entry angles for just the few extra pins that rocketed his career to outer space.

These shots seem to have a lot of hook on them with not even necessarily huge rev rate players (with obvious exceptions). Were they allowed to add grit to their balls? Seems like it would defeat the purpose if so, but would also be hard to enforce.
@jibbernuts5 жыл бұрын
Matthew only half the normal oil volume was used and on a 43 foot pattern, the mids will break down pretty fast. Plastic will carry the oil from the mids to the back so the balls will begin hooking earlier as the day goes on. They can add grit if they want but playing that deep inside, it wouldn't help
@Krranski5 жыл бұрын
@@jibbernuts Fair point, now that you mention the mids being dry and the carrydown, I recall this happening from my days in collegiate bowling when a few teams we played against intentionally did this to lower the scoring pace and confuse/frustrate the opposing teams following them on that pair. They still played a pretty direct line to the pocket, not daring to angle away from the headpin much, if at all. But still, it seemed like we started seeing the mids hook from the first few shots in the telecast, on what I assume was a a fresh application.

I would rather have the time of plastic and rubber. A 300 was a big deal because it didn't happen very often. When reactive balls came out it made a lot of bowlers better then they actually were. Now a 800 series brings a yawn because so many are throwing them.
