Excellent teaching skills! You brought this procedure down to a level that most people will understand. You've given me the confidence I needed to try changing the transmission fluid on my truck on my own. I'm a visual learner, so I would have never tried this without seeing your video first.

Hello from Columbia, SC! I like this O-Ring design. When I had a few Tauruses (catfish/football ones) - that was the worst part of the job besides the mess - was getting the old O-ring out from the filter! it would be stuck in there if prior owner(s) neglected maintenance. If memory serves correct, right around the mid 90s, especially when cars were mandatory OBD2, most FoMoCo products were using that nice plastic, rigid with rubber insert gasket.

Morale to this story is pay attention to the parts that you take out of something or has some funky wear on it ( something that just doesn't look right or is different )find out why. Also try to keep as much fluid in the pan as possible so you can inspect it for materials in in. This was his vehicle and he knew the history of it and new that it had been serviced before. It does have a magnet in the corner to catch shavings but you always want to check what came out ,fluids in a machine can tell you the health of it.Think of it like this /if you are sick they do BLOOD work. Fluid in any machine is the blood of it. Someone mentioned 10 qts. When you do (this ) service you will not drain fluid from the Torque Converter so.you will not put 10 qts back in. Very few torque Converters have drain plugs. So you don't drain them unless you are replacing them. The reason I don't do videos is I don't have the patience.it is good that there are people that do have the patience to do it will. If I did it,it would probably be a tutorial on how to throw a temper tantrum, seems to be fun for everyone else but me.😂😡😂😡. Anyway thanks for your time I sure it will help someone (many) .

Great Video! Thanks for that! I did an '03 and '04 Ford Ranger Edge a while back, both 2wheel drive, both 3.0 V6, both used the filter WITHOUT the extended nipple as well. I'm getting ready to do my '08 Ranger Sport 4.0 2wd and I'll bet its also the one WITHOUT the extended nipple-I'm also doing an '05 Ranger FX4 level II 4wd 4.0, my bet it IT needs the filter WITH the extended nipple. Also, I think you're wrong by using the Mercon LV fluid in that trans, the LV is for later model Ford automatics-(Our '16 Escape takes the LV) You should use the Mercon V only in that Ranger.....

I'm confused, I've read my owner's manual and maintenance schedule for my (recently purchased) 2009 Ranger, and the schedule states that the transmission fluid does not require any changing, saying that it is a "lifetime fill". first time I've ever heard of such a thing, so, how should I handle this?

But now, I think I'm going to take the pan back off since I have not added fluid and tighten the valve body bolts to spec.. Thanks again for such an great video to watch. Hey I'm pretty sure that the correct torque for those are between 120 and 130 inch pounds or 10 to 10.9 foot pounds. At least for my 2008 same transmission is. Because that's what you talked your filter down too which wasn't much so it only makes sense that the pan bolts would be more. Just saying I'm probably wrong I usually am LOL but I just got through doing this to mine about 30 minutes ago like I said so if I'm wrong I'll let you know so I can go back and correct my mistake on my vehicle. So open to all comments here

Quick questions: about how many qts of fluid stay in the tranny? My 08 ranger says 10 qts. So does that mean I need to buy 10 qts or just the amount that drains out? I’m assuming not all 10 qts drains out.

FAIL.....you only took out about 4 quarts, didn't even get the fluid out of the trans cooler, there is a total of 10 liters in there, most automatic transmissions are garbage and you cant get all the fluid out easy, this POS does not even have a drain plug, you need to let it sit over night to drain... and need to add a real/strong magnet to the pan, if you want to actually do a good trans service, 14:55 WHAT ARE YOU DOING SPRAY A BIT ON THE RAG AND THEN WIPE IT, your splattering that stuff all over the place and poising the air and doing nothing, CLEAN THE PAN AFTER USING SAND PAPER
