Thanks for doing all the videos. I have the same bike, color and everything and I love it. I'm also a rookie at doing stuff on motorcycles so when I found your videos they helped out a lot! Thanks

you put a wrong viscosity oil. The indicated SEA is 80 as it is written on the wheel and manual, and you put SEA 80W90, multigrade. (2:02).
@jayanmanol5 жыл бұрын
That's okay. Cold viscosity is important.

First Time Viewer, First Time Commenter on your posts. Love the videos but I have a question on this one. OK on the it says "USE HYPOID GER OIL SAE80 but your using Valvoline Limited Slip Dura Blend Synthetic Blend SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil 1 U.S. QT./.946 Liters. For a moron like myself is that Oil your putting in Hypoid Gear Oil?

excellent job...thanks so much for the help...didn't get a manual with my new (used) bike
@Morndenkainen13 жыл бұрын
@GligorovDimce The "shaft" portion of the shaft drive is empty, the oil merely fills the "differential" portion of the drive assembly. As far as how often it needs to be changed, the owners manual says once at the 600 mile service, and then every 8K miles. Its pretty easy to do, and for the time it takes and added cost, if your doing your own oil changes, I'd just do it every oil change.. But that's me.

With the bike Level it takes 7.5 Oz instead of 5.4 Oz as manual says when leaning in kick stand
@stuartmottram928410 жыл бұрын
Honda says you do not do the oil level with the bike off the stand as this will over fill the diff causing it to blow the excess oil out the breather making a god awful mess of the whole rear end. You fill the diff to the threads whilst the bike is on the side stand. You have confused the fill with the engine oil which must be checked with the bike level.
@Morndenkainen10 жыл бұрын
In the 20,000+ miles I've put on the bike since I bought it, I've never had a problem with oil blowing out the breather cap at the top of the differential, and I've changed the lube this way 4 times now.
@ronniefrederick17929 жыл бұрын
Stuart Mottram Yes I agree with you, I put my bike level and it got oil all over the rear wheel, I ask the honda dealer and they said what to do is have ur bike leaning on its kick stand when u fill it.
@GligorovDimce13 жыл бұрын
@Morndenkainen you are right.thanks for all info.
@michaellandis21445 жыл бұрын
Filling to the threads with the bike level is NOT the correct procedure. All Shadows with side stands were designed to be filled ON THEIR SIDE STANDS. Overfilling will result in the breather exhaling oil from your differential - all over your rear assembly. Doubtless you have discovered this already. And disregard Jose's comment below about "wrong viscosity". 80/90 works just fine.
@CPerreault5 жыл бұрын
You are correct Michael. This is what is written in the service manual. I filled mine with the bike level, went for a ride and found oil coming out of the breather. So I put the bike on the kickstand and let the oil leak out until it stopped.

where can I buy the O-Rings for the drain and filler plug?
@GligorovDimce13 жыл бұрын
@Morndenkainen ,well thank you very much sir, and yes i will be doing the oil changes and most of the repairs if need.i have spoke with couple of people some of them say the regular oil and filter change should be done every 3000 miles, some say 1000, some say 5000 miles. whats your opinion on that??? and how often the spark plugs needs to be changed also?? thank you for all the information.

What is the model/size of shaft oil plug hex?
@Morndenkainen13 жыл бұрын
@GligorovDimce There are so many variable's to consider that all I can really say is go by what the manufacturer recommends, Its your warranty afterall... If your out of warranty, you can do what you want. Personally, because I want mine to run forever, I'm going to continue changing my oil every 4K and replacing the spark plugs every 8K when I do the lifter adjustments.. Besides, for the cost of maintenance, is it really worth taking a chance being stuck on the side of the road?

Thanks, was helpful.

I'm not saying it wouldn't help the lube drain faster, but if you're in that big of a hurry, I'd be more concerned with making a bigger mistake than not getting all the old oil out.

i have 2009 honda shadow 750 aero wih drive shaft and you did the oil change on the rear diff., but is there any oil into the drive shaft itself and does it need to be changed and how often??

Final drive not a differential, huge difference I know you know the difference but the terminology is confusing to beginners.
@Morndenkainen7 жыл бұрын
More people know what a differential is than a final drive... Nice try though.
@Jonathantatrotattoos5 жыл бұрын
A differential allows two powered wheels to travel side by side without skidding. Your Honda shadows final drive oil is what you changed here in the video. Unless you’re on a tricycle you do NOT have a differential. It doesn’t matter how many retards confuse the two, better to educate them then allow the ignorance to spread.
