2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. Tailgate stuck closed. Working on figuring out how to open it.

Recently bought this Santa Fe and it had been sitting a while. Before it sat, the previous owner had difficulties getting the tailgate to open from time to time. Now it won’t open at all.

Last week I accidentally broke the rear glass. Today the tailgate lock stopped working like yours. I looked for tips on how to solve it on KZbin and found your video. I read your comment, about the pieces of glass, removed the lock and the tiny pieces of glass fell out. Problem solved. Internet is amazing, a person on the other side of the world decides to post something and this helps someone in Brazil. Thank you very much!

After further inspection and work, we finally got it open. There were a few small pieces of glass down in the mechanism. Apparently the back window had been broken at some point prior.

Hello, I have the same problem, how did you manage to open it?

@@lendermorales2491 It took a while, but we kept prying on the latch with screwdriver and tapping it with a hammer. Also did a lot of hitting on the hatch door outside by the latch area with the bottom of my palm. Finally the glass dislodged enough to get the latch to move. Brother and I worked on it for about an hour solid before it finally opened that day. Very frustrating.

Thanks friend, I already managed to open it, in my case I had a piece of rivet stuck in the mechanism

I have this exact problem too. Never had broken glass since I have owned it 7years. So I don't know what is in there.
