Same problem here. Just removed the neutral safety switch and installing a new one tomorrow. It starts in neutral fine and drives great. Nice and smooth and in great shape. So I'm hoping this works.

I'm looking out on my views, I can't believe that so many people been having these same problems. I kind of surprised that Hyundai has not recalled these cars having the same issues I've been having. What I don't understand that I have negative dislikes on this issue. I did not make the car Hyundai , and granted there are some cars out there that straight up suck, but not every car is perfect. But I have to say these cars are easy to maintain and cheap to be serviced, and even the parts online are dirt cheap. with the issues these cars have are not nearly expensive to what a lot of high end cars have problems with. If the problem doesn't cause deaths, Hyundai is not going to voluntarily recall the vehicles. Why would they want to fix them for free? They make most of their money from servicing them.

Na nothing just me inside when turning key but when move car back and forth it seem to turn on like a champ if it was a starter i dont think it would of cranked but i changed the switch and it been cranking every single time with no problems i give it a month then i post back up on if that solve my issue thanks king callo for the response much appreciated

Mann I know I'm super late on this, but I was going through the same thing. (2009 Hyundai sonata GLS) I have a remote starter on it that helped tho.... I took my car to get the breaks done. And they did a multi point inspection... told me I needed a new battery.... I bought a new battery and I also bought a battery terminal adapter (I noticed the terminal was loose no matter how much I tightened it to the battery) I havent had an issue since.... but it's still too early to tell. I'm glad I ran into this video tho... just incase.

you most change from park to another select R-N-D and back to park the problem in the selector switch in gearbox beside car engine .

Yea it was the neutral safety switch.Your right its located on top of the transmission between the engine and transmission.But you have to remove car battery and have a small hand to to it and another person to help you once you get it reinstalled.One person in side the car switching the car from park to drive and you on the other end making sure the switch is switching correctly. My 2010 has the same problem. I can rectify it by jump starting it with my portable jump starter, but as is obvious, that get a bit annoying after the umpteenth time. I just ordered a neutral safety switch and will be replacing that. We'll see how it goes.

I have one. Had it since new and we took good care of it. Unfortunately at around 102k miles, the transmision would slip in 1st gear. Figures it'd wait till after the warrenty was up at 100k

That sounds like either a fuel or electrical problem to me. I could not tell you which is which.You know you can check the obvious the battery post make sure they tight.If you have check engine could b an emission issues.If you get your car going and it happens again the only thing i can tell u is try to remember what happened prior to the car shutting off.I use to drive a ford crown vic when i hit a bump hard enough in the rear the car would shut off idk if that was a safety issue or what.But i would definitely have that check out and look online to see if anybody else had that same issues.Good luck.

Since i replaced the neutral safety switch I had no more issues with the car. It starts every time like a champ. They seriously need to recall this part cause this is been happening to a lot of sonatas.Good luck to all I hope this video helped everyone out.

Yea the switch is located between the battery and the ending part of the air filter.It sits on top of the transmission housing.You can see its a black triangle plastic cheap piece. Just look in between the battery and the air filter near the radiator.Just look straight down you can see it. To get to the switch properly you have to remove the battery and a couple of other pieces of the air filter. It's not a quick fix cause you can take off the switch yourself. But the only thing is that to re calibrate the switch you have to do it with 2 ppl. One person inside switching the transmission and the other person need to turn the screw of the switch to make sure the car is taking drive. Buy the switch through the dealership cause any other parts place will not have the original part.I tried using the part from an auto part store but the part broke again.You better off buying from the dealer because the part comes from the manufacturer.Good luck hope this helps.

There is no relation to me putting on the brake cause this car is not a brake start car.But the dealership advise me to cause sometimes the brake pedal sticks.But it the neutral safety switch the cause the car runs today and I put over 50,000 miles on it.

So another thing to keep in mind. I notice a lot of noise from your key ring. The more weight there is on your key ring, the faster your ignition will wear out. When that happens the car will increasingly refuse to start as the tumblers wont match the key.

Yea thats a gd point but what was going on is when the i placed the car in park and went to start it there was nothing. It was like the battery was nt even there.These cars are notorious for the neural safety switch.I don't know why Hyundai does not do a factory recall on the car.But i appreciate the input on the ignition switch thanks.

I had a 2009 Sonata. Car was fine up until around 92-93k miles, then the brake light would come on. Didn't lose breaking power, but the car would not shift into park. Turns out it was the brake switch needing replacing, a $12 part. Then I come to find that the back axle was cracked. Had that fixed. Then the starter failed after that. Suffice it to say, I got rid of that piece of shit and bought a Volvo S80. Never had an issue with the car and would never recommend a Hyundai.

Steve Howard that's funny I don't know what sup with these Hyundais. My main problem is that I'm tall this car is the most uncomfortable car I ever drove. I on your page this will be my last sonatas. I think I buying a town and country cause this car straight sucks. How comfortable is that Volvo you own now.

Getupand Gotransport the S80 is the most comfortable cruiser I've ever owned. The seats go back so far, I have to have them up a bit and I'm 6'4". Bought it at 40k miles and just last week it is at 95k with zero problems. Still looks and feels like new. I'll never sell this Volvo!

My car is currently in the shop as I type this as I am experiencing the SAME exact issues. I came across another video that also was displaying the same problem and it also turned out to be the inhibitor switch so I told my local mechanic shop about this because nothing was showing up on their end..No error codes or anything. My 2012 Elantra was starting up just fine for them. I just started having this problem about 2 months ago. It has happened 3x. Had my battery replaced first as I thought that was the issue but it wasn't. So my local mechanic shop just ordered an inhibitor switch specifically from Hyundai and they are gonna replace it. I've just heard of many people saying that Hyundai won't fix the issue if the error code doesn't show on their end, and they also want to charge me $100 just to run the diagnostic. I'd rather take my chances with my local mechanic shop just replacing the part for me. Hopefully this will be the end of my frustrations with my car. Thanks for the upload.

My problems started when i shifted the car into park.I notice when the car never lunged forward this headache would happen.I never got an error code for the inhibitor switch.It just happen that one day I shut the car off not even ten minutes.I went to start the car and It was like there was no battery in the car.But when i moved the auto shifter or move the car back and forth the car would start up like a champ.since I changed the switch it never did it again but I still find myself moving the car when i shut it off.Sorry for the late response I just noticed the message.

It was the inhibitor switch aka the neutral safety switch.I had to either move the shifter or rock thr car back n forth to startDo yourself a favor let the Hyundai dealership do it.I have taken it to a regular mechanic and have put an aftermarket part it worked for 2 wks then the bs started all over again.Its nt an expensive part to fix with labor your looking around 150 bucks to fix.But u can call the dealership and talk to the service department and they will tell u what it sounds like.I would take it to them cause they have to calibrate the switch to the transmission.They also will take apart where shifter is located to make sure that the shift linkage not loose or broken.Ive taken it to the dealership and my warranty expired and thats what i paid in cash for the fix.Take care hopefully that takes care of your problem.

+K Bizzy It was the inhibitor switch aka neutral safety switch.I have no existing warranties on my car so i paid cash for the fix on my car from the dealership.What so ever do not put an aftermarket switch on the car cause the aftermarket switch does not have the pin that comes on the original switch for the car.Take it to the hyundai dealership I paid no more than 150 in total for the job.They have to check the shift linkage for the car to see if the linkage its not loose or worn out.I took it to the regular mechanic and trust me i wound up taking it to the dealership no matter what cause within the 2 wks the switch gave me an issue again.The inhibitor switch aka neutral safety switch those things goes on top of the transmission casing on top and there made out of plastic thats why they break so easy.Mines is located under the battery where you can see the top part of the transmission is where the switch sits on anyway for my sonata but u can still check yours out.But once they change the switch they have to calibrated it inside the car to see if the shifter responds to the switch trust me i seen it done its a pain in the ass 2 people have to do it.The switch ran me cheap i paid from the dealer the original one i paid 35 bucks for it the aftermarket one ran me 25 but u better off going to the dealership for this one.But after it was done it has not done it again.Take care hope this helps you out.

I go to start my 2009 sonata it clicks when i put my foot on the brakes its not my battery i put my battery in a truck it cranked right up

The only other clicking that i would assume that it can be the starter solenoid or the starter it self.The only other click if your hitting your foot on the brake cause I have a similar click is those safety clips on the brake pads.I removed them when I replaced the brakes and the click stopped.I hope that helps you out.

It sounds like to me like the solenoid on the starter is going since you said the battery is good.But putting your foot on the brakes sounds like the safety clips on your brake pads.I took those safety clips off my car and the clicks went away.I hope this helps.

Well this is a problem sorry to hear this. It can be anything your battery loose cables, alternator defective, fuel pump faulty, vacuum line leaking, computer needs to be re programmed or replaced. Someone would need to check this car out sensor by sensor, fuse by fuse to filter out what going on it can be a short circuit. But it sounds like a fuel cut off. Something the computer is registering that something is an open loop, what I mean if your gassing up then you put the gas cap on to the computer your still gassing up even though your driving away is what the computer is guessing. So it shuts the car down cause its a fail safe feature on the car. What boogles my mine is if you research this the mechanics still can't figure this out and the reason why is that they work for a place that strictly does replace the product not figure out what truly wrong with the car. But the neutral safety switch would not create this being that the car when its in park and you start the car the computer thinks the car is moving in reverse is the reason why the car does not start. Your issue is when the car is traveling is your issue. So the only way I can guide you to the right direction is to get a scanner tool plug it up into your computer outlet then run the car then hopefully when this happens you can tell what happen up to the point the car stopped. But note that the computer in the car will tell you to the point of shut off cause your car all you problems stays on the computer like the black box on the plane. Hopefully this helps you out the scan tool cost bout $ 150 buck around there you can get one used. Good luck sorry I could not fix your problem.

Funny thing when I did this video i think i had near 90,000. This problem still persist today. But the solution to this problem is where your starter is located there is a plug that goes into your starter. You can take out the switch clean it with break cleaner then put it in that should eliminate that stater situation. Good luck let me know how u made out with that.

Solution: replace the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH Problem: The vehicle thinks it is not in the Park position. Consequently, it prevents the driver from starting the vehicle for safety reason. Notice the letter "P" is not showing on the dashboard display. Temporary fix: Take shifter out of "Park" and put it back into "Park" and try to restart. Since i replace the neutral safety switch aka inhibitor switch.Prior i replaced it with an autozone switch trust me that was the biggest mistake i did.Do yourself a favor if you don't know how to do replace yourself. Take it to the Hyundai dealership save yourself the headaches.It came out to 150 with labor to replace.Once i changed it it has not done it again.But i been scorned by this so when i park now and i feel the car does not lurch forward i move the shifter when in park just in case but that's me.But i have no issues with it.Its been starting like a champ every single time. I hope this helps.

Help!!!!! I bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata and the engine light was on. After about 2-3 days, the car stop starting. I got the spark plugs and starter replaced and that still didn't fix it. I took it to a small auto repair shop and this is the notes they left me after running an electric diagnostic on it: "Vehicle turns over but doesn't start. Check power to fuel injectors but injectors not receiving power . All fuses and relays are working. Scan tool wont communicate with vehicle with no injector fuse. No spark and no communication. PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed." The question that I have is does this sound right? Is this common for the vehicle? If it does sound like the problem, can it something I can fix myself? This car was purchased for my mother so I’m trying to help her out the best I can . I never did change the starter but the battery i had done i change the neutral safety switch which is also known as the inhibitor switch and i would suggest getting that from the dealership of Hyundai.The part cost 38 bucks with tax and cost me 100 bucks to put in.The no starting situation stopped and the car turns on every single time.

this happened to me yesterday. i was driving and got on the freeway when i felt the steering wheel get stiff along with the break and accelerator with it. i stopped on the side of the freeway and it did this only it did not start at all. i had to call a friend and have him pull me to my house. Someone told me it was the alternator or something so if someone knows please let me know

Fix the car the car is worth it.Change the neutral safety switch.If we have the same car its located on top of the transmission housing.You need 2 ppl to do the switch one to adjust the top while someone checks to see if the transmission is taking drive correctly.

Mines happen to been the Neutral safety switch cost about $ 23 bucks on this site was on this site Rock Auto.com was the cheapest i seen that was identical to the one thats on the car now all some of the parts are OEM. Mines right now has to be changed cause my car is doing the same thing again. Those switches are made of crap they only last around 80,000 miles. Its located on the top of the transmission housing right under the battery but thats for the sonatas. This problem happens when the car does not go foward when putting the car in park. The only thing to resolve that temporarily is to try to move the car forward with ignition key on then move the car forward then put the car in park. You should hear a click in the shifter thats an indication that the car is in park. This is my second sonata and it will be the last one I will ever own. Both of my sonatas did the same thing. SOmetimes i will keep turning on the ignition a few times then the car would turn on. Its annoying I know sometimes I just want to take a hammer and bang the hell out the car, but thats me. @Nasty FingurZ I have the same issue with my car currently Hyundai Sonata 2009 GLS V6 3.3L. The car doesn't crank as shown in the video but the surprising part is, when I tried to start the car few days after the issue happened the car did start and ran like nothing failed. I thought I was lucky but wasn't. The car failed on me once again. So just curious if it is just the neutral safety switch or could be any other issue as the car did start once after the initial failure.
