2009 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Review, Walkaround, Exhaust & Test Drive

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has a ferocious V8, classy style, and a quick shifting transmission all wrap in a comfortable sedan body you could use on a daily basis. Finally someone who knows where that the RS is in line with M/AMG. I'm tired of people comparing an M/AMG to an S. Just because it has an S badge doesn't mean it competes with a proper M or AMG car.

Yeah people need to remember that the S cars are higher in performance than the normal Audi line up, but it doesn't even come close to a proper M car or AMG car. The RS cars are what compete with those. Like who would compare an RS6 to an M550i? An RS6 would compete much better with a proper M5 or even M5 Competition.

For those who are thinking about getting one. GET ONE! Make sure the car is maintained well and the head bolt issue is fixed. Overall it does eat gas a lot... it does matter how you drive the C63 AMG.

@@jam-gg5cb No it's just the size of the engine and its ferocity with that sound. Mercedes as far as I know, hasn't made an engine as huge as this 6.2L V8 since this car. Someone can correct me. Plus this engine is all naturally aspirated, and it's quick without any turbos. You don't see many N/A V8s nowadays. Lexus still makes them, as far as I know.

Best C63 in my opinion is this one. No other version has the character and personality that this 6.2L V8 brings. The sound and ferocity of this engine, and even the looks, are still what impresses me to this day. The days when German manufacturers just went crazy with their engines. I mean during this time, BMW had their S65 4.0L N/A V8 in the M3 and their S85 5.0L V10 in the M5, Mercedes had this 6.2L V8 in this car and many other AMG cars at the time, as well as their 5.4L V8 in something like the ML 55, Audi had the insane 6.0L V12 diesel engine in the Q7. I miss these days.

FYI, push-button start is a dealer installed option for most Mercedes. Its a removable button that sticks into the ignition slot so you can always take it out if you don't want to use it.

Well that was a nice surprise, I just bought a 2008 C63 AMG without driving it, I fly to Auckland (NZ) to pick it up next weekend, so I've been youtubing top gear, 5th gear and insane russian parking lot drifters, but your review was by far the best, your reaction to 1/4 throttle told me it's not peaky, your description of the quickness of the 7spd auto wasn't even covered by the bigger reviewers, just a really good review of what it might be like to live with my new car - now I REALLY can't wait to pick it up :) Love that you're open minded too, clearly the M3 is a work of art but no two people want the same thing out of a car so as you say be open minded and shop around. That's the problem when people have too much money. They're either too busy showing off with it or working for it that they don't have time to upkeep the car. Mine would be spotless, waxed, dust free in the interior, properly maintained and not winter driven. I love working on my car, it's almost therapeutic and you appreciate it more vs just handing it off to another person to get detailed.

I own one like this. White with carbon fibre extras such as rear wing, front lip spoiler, rear bumper splitters and front bar fins. However mine has the front and rear sensors. It's a beast love it so much glad to own one.

Oh, and push button start was only offered in Canada in 2009 and was not a US option. It's now offered in the US, but it wasn't in 2009 (maybe 2011?). Also, the shift speeds are bumped up to be 50% faster in manual mode than it is in comfort mode. It's such a quick car that it's hard to keep off the rev limiter from a start in manual mode. You have to hit the paddle about a second after you floor it, and that's without wheel spin.

the DCT is only for the FWD CLA A and B class AMG, all 63 amg pre-2010 uses an modified 7- g-tronic only, MCT 7 didn't arrive till 2011

Bought a steel grey metallic example not too long ago. With a resonator delete, it sounds really sweet. It's also a head turner, and surprisingly smooth seating and overall feel of the car. I'd recommend it if you have mid 20k to spend. Just get one with a good service history. That's all that really matters.

To be fair, the engine is 6,208cc displacement, which is technically a 6.2l. However, for German car tax purposes, every started 100ccs counts, so the badge works in Germany (because you pay for 6.3l) and it's done a lot over here by car makers.
