How to replace thermostat Housing and crossover water pipe with ease also showing the type of Tools that makes your job easy

There are a thousand and one ways can approach and accomplish this job. As long as you get done properly you did it right. When I did this on my Mini, I did not remove the intake manifold. To install the the cross over pipe, I removed the tranny linkage to slide in the pipe in. Also I removed the O-ring and put electrical tape at the end of the pipe to protect it when I slid it under the intake. Then I removed the electrical tape, lathered the o-ring in dish soap, secured the o-ring to the end of the pipe and installed.

I just replaced the thermostat and crossover pipe in my 2008 R56. Perhaps the methods may apply here: 1) remove the pass side wheel to gain access to the lower back of the engine where the water pump inlet it for the crossover pipe. 2) insert the crossover pipe loosely 3) insert the thermostat loosely 4) pull out the crossover pipe 1/2 inches and connecto the thermostat 5) engate that metal clip that connects the two 6) re-insert the pipe and thermostat assembly and guide the pipe thru the wheelweel into the water pump inlet 7) wiggle the pipe/waterpump assembly in place until you feel it engate into the waterpump. Worked like a charm, leak proof. don't forget to apply lubricant to both waterpump inlet and end of the pipe. BTW, this will also help with old crossover pipe removal - if the end of it breaks with the gasket, you can simply pull them out from the wheelwell with a pick.
