It's less about getting the information in the answer (because the interrogator probably already knows whether RDJ was in jail and/or prison) and more about seeing if RDJ is honest in the answer.

Robert is so that uncle that pops in on holidays with really questionable toys for the kids, getting hushed by his sister when he cusses in front of them but then he brings the whole family together with his tales of travel and adventure until he leaves and no one hears from him for another year until the next reunion and he just does it all over again.

I love how Mickey Rourke talks about RD (who has been forgiven by Hollywood & given many chances over & over again while the Academy declined to award Mickey the Oscar that year even though he clearly deserved it and was considered to be he front runner- won BAFTA, Golden Globe & Independent Spirit Award). Speaking of Mickey losing the Oscar, where is Sean Penn? Why wasn’t he part of this “round table” when he ultimately won the prize for “Best Oscar” over Mickey that particular year?
