Had this car for about 2 months now. I love the car more and more each day. No buyers remorse what so ever. The drive is very smooth, visibility is amazing, turning radius is very small, sunroof is massive, cargo space is big, and the AWD handles anything the weather in NY can dish out. Only 2 complaints: cup holders are square?! heated seat controls should be a little more forward by the transmission. Otherwise a great value for the money.

Thank you for posting this. While some tests (cargo) were designed to show off the Forester, the driving tests were fair and balanced. Very impressive.

A very comprehensive review. Thank you for that. No wonder we don't see many of similar reviews from other brands -- because they have nothing to show...

They compared it to the cheaper suvs! the car should have been compared to the VW Tiguan and, as you said, the Ford Escape. In my opion, all three of them are great, but I would choose: 1)Subaru Forester (Rugged and reliable) 2)Ford Escape (Rugged and Good Looking) 3)VW Tiguan (Fantastic Offroader, although $5000 more than both)

I didn't think the Forester could do that type of off roading. Cool.

I wish they can show more footage of the CRV and RAV4

cargo test is flawed. the subi has a bigger opening, but not more cargo room. Just check out the specs on the other cars. Non-the-less I still placed an order for an X-limited in dark gray.

@BermudaGreenNox the number of gears is not as important as the range between the tallest and the shortest gear. I think those 6 or 7 speed trans are more marketing hype than usefulness. I would rather have a sturdy 4 sp than a 7 spd flimsy one.

4 speed auto is actually better than 6 speed. Why? With 6 speed, there are more shifts and "gear searching." Four shift is actually more precise and smooth. Greater number of gears is not always better.

The 4 speed auto best matches the power output of the 2.5 -

it depends how the gears are set up.. and thats only case of automatic gearbox.. only jerk would by subaru car with automatic transmission

4 speed auto is lighter than others. maybe a good compromise.

I actually don't mind the 4 speed auto.

umm... HA at my cottage we went off-roading, my buddy had an 04 forester, i have an 04 dakota, and another friend has the brand new escape. dakota and subaru come out with nothing. we all caught ground in the same places, me a bit less cause of more clearance. but anyways by the end of the weekend escape needed a new undercarriage, hardly driveable. dont compare ford to ANYTHING.

tell me about it my 04 outback sport looks like it had bad acne throught puberty. i always assumed it was because it's meant to keep the wieght of the car low. when i had my accident the chasis stayed firm wheel in tack the stupid person in the gran vitara.... lets just say they hitched a ride home. how dumb do you have to be to hit a person going 30mph down a main street! i love my suby though she's tough.
