I did my first one a year ago and had to come back to thank you for your video. I was super intimidated by this job at first. Then I saw how easy it is. I’ve even done a few things to optimize it so the ac line and transmission lines don’t hang up. There are places you can hook them too and I never have an issue. I also just take the motor mount out. It’s only one more bolt once you get the rest of the fuse box out. Takes another 5 minutes but makes it easier. I’ve done like 10 of these now from traverse/acadia/enclave to the impalas and malibus. Fun job for me personally

I put timing chains in my 2008 Saturn 3.6L with 134k miles after a month of research. It took me a long time, but it's doable. My car started immediately. I've found this video and this professional, with your equable, unpretentious approach near the top for value. It's excellent for the amount of information contained; because well done as to angle, limited movement and lighting. I also appreciate the bolt head sizes. You make what is not easy for the amateur at least understandable. Kudos.

Ok.. so it’s my first time doing timing chains. And I don’t have a lift.. and I’m afraid I might have a bent valve.. so from watching the video. I can hopefully do a leak down test after I get the motor out and blocked up. Thanks for the info. I hope I can do this.. it seems like a lot

Do a compression test if the engine still turns over. The engine does not need to be pulled if you are just doing the timing chains.

Thanks for this thorough video. I am planning to do the timing chains on my 2008 Acadia. Is it possible to drop this engine without disconnecting the A/C lines (so I don't have to get the refrigerant recovered and the A/C serviced after)?

You do not need to pull the engine to do that job.

If I remember correctly, it jumped time and bent the valves, I believe the only thing different on the 15 engine you will be putting in is a oil level sensor, thanks for watching like and subscribe

I'm putting a 2015 in an 2009 right now. I think the long blocks are essentially the same from 2009-2017 externally at least, but I've heard that the 2014+ might have been revised internally in some way to improve reliability, but I haven't seen any proof.

I work for a shop. The labor rate is 110 an hour and I think the job pays around 15 hours.

I think it pays 15 or 16 hours so just times that by the shops hourly rate , plus fluids and any gaskets needed
